Maggie's obituary

Maggie Lane, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Florida.

Born on January 31, 1947, in the quaint town of Grand Island, Nebraska, Maggie was one of five children. After spending her childhood in Grand Island, she ventured to California, where she welcomed her eldest son, Michael. Eventually, fate led her back to Grand Island, where she was blessed with her second son, Steve. Maggie devotedly raised her boys there until 1975 when the family relocated to Omaha. It was in Omaha where Maggie encountered her true love and soulmate, Stoney. On May 7, 1977, Maggie and Stoney were married with Mike and Steve by their side, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together.

Maggie's heart knew no bounds as she welcomed a young boy named DJ into their home as a foster child, providing him with love and care for seven years. In 1988, as their sons embarked on their own paths, Maggie and Stoney relocated to Florida. There, Maggie earned a degree in social work from the University of Southern Florida and worked for the Florida Department of Children and families.

Wherever Maggie resided, her home extended a warm embrace to any creature in need of love. Over the years, an array of furry and feathered friends found comfort under her roof. Dogs like Joshua, Pugsy, and Greta, Sylvester the cat, the hamsters, the goldfish, a rabbit, and a chorus of birds, including her cherished African Gray Parrot, Pepper, all found sanctuary within the Lane household.

An adventurer at heart, Maggie loved travel. She and Stoney embarked on road trips, with Pepper in-tow, in their RV, journeying to visit family and immerse themselves in the beauty of the United States. In between land adventures, Maggie delighted in setting sail. Whether it be with Stoney, her girlfriends, or her grandchildren Maggie was the life of the party on a cruise ship.

She also had an undeniable love for music. Maggie was often found dancing the night away or belting out tunes by Jimmy Buffet. There were also times you could find Maggie capturing the serene beauty of her backyard through her paintings. The grandkids all have a “Maggie Original” hanging on their wall.

Above all, Maggie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her cherished family.

Maggie is survived by her devoted husband, Stoney; her eldest son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael, and Lora Lane, along with their children Megan, Natalie, Alex, Austin, and Matthew; her youngest son, Steve Lane, and his children, Steven, and Brandon; and her great-granddaughter, Mia.

Maggie will be honored and remembered in late March in Florida, with a Celebration of Life planned for May in Omaha as family and friends pay tribute to a beloved woman with a heart of gold.
