Madeline's obituary
Madeline Grubbs, a beloved wife of 72 years, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2023 at 93. Born on December 13, 1929, to Fred Otto Kemp and Opal Wilkerson Kemp, Madeline was raised alongside her siblings, Susan Kemp Herman and Fredrick Stanley Kemp. She is predeceased by her parents and brother Stanley.
On July 26, 1950, Madeline married the love of her life, Ray Grubbs, with whom she shared a lifelong commitment and devotion. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Deborah Grubbs Kushner, Cynthia Grubbs Elias and James Grubbs. Madeline also had the joy of welcoming her sons-in-law, Paul Kushner and Rafael Elias as well as her daughter-in-law, Christina Grubbs, into the family.
As a grandmother, Madeline cherished each of her grandchildren: Melissa, David, Jenna, Thomas, Rebecca, Nicholas and Catherine, and their spouses, Jedrik (Melissa), Sonja (David), Gunner (Jenna), Mackenzie (fiancée to Nick) and John (Caitie). Her great-grandchildren, Everett, Cella, Barett, and Titan, brought immense joy to her life as well.
Madeline was an active member of the Sierra Community Church in South Lake Tahoe, CA, where she found joy in worshipping God, Bible studies and lifelong friendships. Throughout her life, she pursued her passions for playing the piano, reading, listening to her favorite singers, bands and orchestras and supporting her favorite sports teams, the USC College Football team and LA Rams. Madeline treasured the time spent with her family, whether they were sailing, golfing, camping, or traveling on cruises and road trips.
As a devoted and loving mother, Madeline believed that raising her three children and grandchildren with Godly wisdom and guidance was her greatest accomplishment. She also derived great satisfaction from her career as a teacher, impacting the lives of countless young minds. Madeline’s sweet and positive personality, her humility in her achievements, and her unwavering faith in God have left an indelible legacy of love for her family, her friends, and all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life for Madeline will be held on July 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Sierra Community Church, South Lake Tahoe.
