Mabel's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mabel Osborne on March 23, 2024. Mabel, a beacon of warmth, love and patience, was born on November 25, 1938, and in her 85 years, she lived a life full of joy, adventure, and boundless love for her family and community.

Mabel is survived by her devoted sons, Mark Whitaker,  Gilbert Lee Whitaker, and her cherished daughter-in-law, Angel Mattioda and Rose Whitaker. She leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Zachary, Kasey, and Matthew Whitaker, and Emily Walsh.

And her four great grand children Bristol, Rylan, Scarlet and Dominique.

Also cherishing her memory are her nieces, Amy Bulter Schlangen, and Lisa Butler Grainge. She was predeceased by her son, John Whitaker, her niece, Julie Ann Butler Lacy, and her loving parents, Jesse and Virginia Butler.

Upon her retirement from Indiana Bell Ameritech in 1993, Mabel relocated to Clinton, MS in 2011 where she embraced the slow-paced life of the south, while still maintaining her roots in Indiana, particularly her love for the Indianapolis Colts. She was a consistent attendee at the United Methodist Church of Greenwood Indiana, symbolizing her love for faith and community.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; the spirited tunes of Rod Stewart, the drama of daytime soaps, and the thrill of The Price is Right. Her love for art extended to Barry Manilow, and any game of Monopoly was sure to bring out her competitive spirit. Mabel had a particular fondness for Myrtle Beach, a beloved vacation spot, and was always up for an adventure, no matter her age.

Mabel will be remembered for her warm heart, always seeing the good in everyone, and for her mantra of patience and gratitude. She was generous with second chances and had a special love for her children and grandchildren. Mabel's adventurous spirit, her compassion and her commitment to giving made her a treasured part of the lives she touched.

A Celebration of Mabel's life will be held on April 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Mabel's bright personality, much like her favourite colour yellow, brought light and warmth to all around her. Her legacy of compassion and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she left behind.

She lived, she loved, and she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, understanding, and admiration. Goodbye, dear Mabel. Your memories live on in us, and you will be dearly missed.
