Lynne's obituary
Lynne Maloney Kurz passed away peacefully at the Mount Carmel Comfort Home in Hilton, New York on June 9, 2025 with her son Casey at her side.
Lynne is survived by her children: Andy Kurz, Casey Kurz (Karla), and Wendy Peacock (Andy); her sister, Joyce Boens (Gary); her six grandchildren: Alexis, Shawn, Ryan, Chase, Charlie, and Kora; as well as cousins, nieces, and several close friends.
Born in Philadelphia in 1941, Lynne was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Ethel Maloney. Lynne was a 1958 graduate from Upper Marion High School in King of Prussia, PA, and shortly thereafter she received her BS in Biology from Ursinus College in 1962. While attending Ursinus, she was proud to represent the State of Pennsylvania in the 1961 Miss America Pageant held in Atlantic City.
In 1963, Lynne and her husband moved to Melbourne Beach, FL in order to work on the Atlantic Missile Range. Lynne worked for RCA as a mathematician, processing data acquired on the launch and reentry phases of missiles launched at Cape Kennedy, now Cape Canaveral. After spending a few years in Florida, Lynne was glad to return to the north where she could pursue her real interest in biology. She accepted a job at Rochester General Hospital where she was in charge of operating the heart/lung machine during the early days of heart transplant surgery. Not an easy assignment! It was then that she decided to work on her B.S. degree in nursing, which she completed in 1984. Meanwhile, Lynne gave birth to three children, the loves of her life.
Lynne was also a true citizen of the world. Her love of travel took her to six continents, with unforgettable visits to iconic places such as the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu in Peru and the Galapagos Islands.
Though her accomplishments were many, Lynne also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as hosting many get-togethers with friends at her home. She was an active member of her garden club, coffee group, and book club. A lifelong dog lover, she found comfort and companionship in her pets. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Lynne will be remembered as a steady source of strength, wisdom, and love — a nurse, a nurturer, an artist and a friend to all who knew her.
Calling hours will be held on July 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Meadows, Chestnut Court Community Room, with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow in Fairport.
