Lynne's obituary

Lynne Diane Johnston, 65, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Hospital after a short battle with septicemia.

Lynne was born on January 1, 1954 to R. Max and Emily (Hicks) McGuire at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington. She was raised in Muscatine, Iowa and graduated from Muscatine High School in 1972. After moving to Overland Park and getting married in 1979, she spent her adult life residing in Olathe and Shawnee.

Lynne was a loving and dedicated mother first and foremost, deciding to stay at home to raise her three sons: Travis, Alec and Drew. She was an amazing mom who was kind, compassionate and always there for her children. Lynne’s best friend in life was her late Aunt Marcia Hansen, who she adored. She was highly skilled in sewing and was an exceptional quilter, working on many projects for friends and family. Her love of gardening was also easily apparent by viewing her yard and flowerbeds, especially when it came to her knowledge and collection of daylilies.

Lynne had an absolute love for Shelties, especially when it came to her “boys”: Logan, Rex and Sami. It was this love of animals that led to her working at 4 Paws Pantry & Spa in Olathe where her smile, positive attitude and joy of helping people made her a ray of light to her coworkers and customers. Her coworkers became like a second family, as she truly loved working there. She also loved spending time with her grandson, Wyatt.

Lynne made friends everywhere she went and lived life by the Golden Rule, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” She passed away with her three sons at her side.

Lynne is survived by her three sons: Travis of Lenexa, KS; Alec and his wife Kate of Marshalltown, IA; and Drew of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by the father of her children: Jeff of Olathe, KS; her mother: Emily of Topeka, KS; her grandson: Wyatt of Marshalltown, IA; her brother: Steve of Topeka, KS; her sister: Sharon of Rochester, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

It was Lynne’s request not to have a formal service, out of respect for her wishes, she will be remembered, and her life celebrated at a later date.
