Lynn's obituary

Lynn Saint James (nee Doris Harter) passed away at home on November 14, 2019, at the age of 81. Lynn was born on January 8, 1938, in Hyde County, SD. Her first school was a one room country school, North Eagle School, near the ranch where she was raised and then Highmore High School in Highmore, SD. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD for two years, then studied one year in France where she stayed on to work in Paris and at a U.S. military base. It was there she met Capt. Richard Sisson. They became engaged, and Lynn returned to Boston, MA to get her degree while Richard finished his tour of duty. They were married in 1963, and lived in Pittsburgh, PA for a several years where their two children Mark and Robin were born. Once Richard completed his medical training, the family moved to southern California.

As the children grew, Lynn was very involved in their activities, as well as raising and showing miniature horses. Her interests also included cooking, traveling and exploring her extremely artistic and creative skills in various mediums. After a divorce, Lynn attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising before moving to Monterey, CA where she lived near her beloved coast. Initially she worked for an interior design firm before starting her career with CTB McGraw-Hill in Monterey. As a Senior Editor, Lynn worked on standardized tests for public and private school systems, including development, assessment, scoring and marketing.

After retirement, Lynn continued to live in Monterey and had more time to spend with family and enjoy her favorite pastimes of calligraphy and marbling. Both children live in southern California, and Lynn would travel there for holidays and visits that gave her the opportunity to see their families grow and change. Her love and support of her family was unwavering. She also enjoyed time with her two sisters, Nanci Adams and Lois Harter, who also live in California. Always a private person, Lynn had a kind and generous heart, a devastatingly funny wit, and an interest in world issues.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents Morris and June Harter, her brother Richard, and her former husband Richard Sisson. She is survived by son Mark Sisson, daughter Robin Jane Jackson, granddaughters Emily and Claire Sisson and by loving in-laws, sisters, and other family and friends. A private memorial will be held by the immediate family.
