Lynn's obituary
Lynn Robert Fredericksen Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Born on June 7, 1965, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was raised in Nashville, Tennessee. After attending Father Ryan High School in Nashville, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Memphis, graduating with honors (go, Lynn!).
From there, Lynn embarked on a long, successful career in advertising as an art director/creative director. During stints at agencies in Memphis, Baltimore, and Houston, his stature grew within the industry. And he eventually began creating work for companies his parents had actually heard of, such as IBM and Shell. So it was only a matter of time before Lynn was called up to the big leagues – a position at the nationally acclaimed agency TRG in Dallas. For over 20 years at TRG, Lynn’s career flourished as he developed and oversaw creative work for Chick-fil-A, The Home Depot, Fruit of the Loom, Hyundai, Sub-Zero/Wolf, and other clients. Little-known fact: Chick-fil-A’s Cow Appreciation Day was Lynn’s idea.
It was at TRG that Lynn met the love of his life, Jessica. The couple exchanged vows on May 17, 2015, in Austin and began a life together in Dallas. But eventually they yearned for something beyond the city’s glass skyline and congested streets. And when the Flatirons called, the Fredericksens answered. Now residing in Colorado, Lynn founded his own creative practice in Boulder during 2020. To distinguish his company from others, he named it Other.
Throughout his career, Lynn collected many prestigious advertising awards, but even more friends. Colleagues and clients admired him for his endless creativity, impeccable design skills, unwavering upbeat attitude, tidy office space, and going an entire year of wearing only solid-colored clothing.
Yet Lynn’s interests reached far beyond hawking consumer goods. He was a gifted and enthusiastic cyclist, having conquered some of the world’s most iconic and difficult roads, and recently led rides for the Rapha Boulder Clubhouse. He was a talented guitar player and accomplished cook (who could forget his holiday Guinness stout cakes?). Not only was he a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Lynn owned 1/5,011,558 of the NFL franchise.
Everyone who knew Lynn describes him as a “gentle soul,” with the exception of those he encountered on the ice hockey rink. And he will always be remembered for his dedication to family and friends, countless thoughtful deeds, and never using the “shift” key.
Advice from Lynn that bears repeating: read David Foster Wallace’s This Is Water, spend the extra money for good-quality cheese, always stay hydrated, and never let anyone keep you from being excellent.
Lynn was preceded in death by parents Lynn Robert Fredericksen Sr. and Diane Ruffalo Driver. He is survived by wife Jessica Lyn and their son Seren Lynn; siblings Michael, Stephen, Erica (Franco) Scaramuzza, and Emily (Stefan) Neely; nephews and nieces Nicholas, Henry, Eva, Aurelia, Gian, Robert, and Patrick; stepmother Patricia Fredericksen; loving aunts and uncles; and some sweet road bikes.
A memorial service is in the works. Due to the holidays, it may be in the new year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Seren’s education fund:
