Lynette's obituary
Lynette Baynes Burtchaell Shuff passed away on March 14, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was 64 years young and a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. She is preceded in death by parents Garland and Josephine Baynes and daughter Angel JeanneMarie Burtchaell Baynes. She is survived by her children: Christopher Shuff (Summer), William Burtchaell III (Treasure), Reece Shuff (Jennifer), Danielle Bastoe (Scott), Crystal Shuff, and Morgan Alvarez (Ryan); siblings: Garland Baynes Jr (Patty), Suzi Kline (the late Mark Kline), many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and former spouse and lifelong friend William “Big Billy” Burtchaell Jr.
Growing up, Lynette excelled in school, enjoyed playing the clarinet, and was always the life of the party. Lynette had an amazing sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to speak her mind.
Lynette had seven children and four step-children, and was known as mom to all of their friends. She never turned anyone away and always believed that if she had it, it was yours. She was an amazing cook that could not only make something out of nothing, but she always made enough to feed an army. She never wrote down or followed a recipe; she just had a gift in the kitchen. Raising a large family was quite a struggle, but she always did her best, often going without. She taught her children the importance of hard work and to earn what they need. She also taught them the difference between wants/needs and to know the value of their self-worth. She loved her entire family despite typical dysfunction and them being estranged at times. She always worried and was extremely proud of their successes. She was a fun, loving, and fiercely loyal independent woman who impacted everyone she met.
Whether you knew her as Lynette, Ma, Ms. Lynette, Mimi, or Aunt Lynette, she was unforgettable. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her gave all who knew her a source of love, support, and strength. She will be desperately missed.
Family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate and honor Lynette’s memory on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 12pm-3pm at Crave, 3201 E Judge Perez Dr, Meraux, LA 70075.
