Lyndia's obituary
Lyndia Susan Grady Matthews “Linda”, 76, of Zebulon, NC joined her beloved husband and son on April 13, 2025 at Transitions Lifecare of Raleigh. She passed after a long battle with cancer.
Lyndia was born on September 29, 1948 in Duplin County to Needham Bryan & Susan Grady. She married Robert “Bobby” E. Matthews and together they had one son, Robert Bryan Matthews (deceased). She also raised her grandson, Christian Andrew Matthews, and he is her sole surviving heir. She enjoyed her job taking care of the neighborhood kids, some of whom were like family to her (Samantha Stuart Williamson & Jacob Costello).
Lyndia was cared for by her grandson Christian, who lived with her, her niece & nephews, as well as several of her good friends. Especially her best friend Catherine Clifton & her daughter Sarah Clifton & her other best friend Linda Costello (deceased). Lyndia was surrounded by many good friends who loved and assisted her, including her best friend of 63 years, Maryann Stanley, and her beloved friends of the Class of 66’. She was also dearly loved by her great niece & nephew Jennifer & Anthony Britton as well as her great-great-nephew, Joshua Britton, who often assisted in her care. Lyndia was blessed with many friends and family who loved her tremendously.
Lyndia was a light to all who were blessed to know her. A woman who would always lend you her ear and who had enough wisdom to help you navigate an issue. She loved God and would pray for you always. She truly trusted in the Lord and by her example she encouraged others to as well. Jesus said “If you love me keep my commandments” (John 14:15). The 10 Commandments direct us to love God - which she did and love our neighbor - which she also did. She truly loved the Lord. She loved as Christ loved - without judgement and unceasingly. She would take you under her wing and love and protect you like a mother hen. The desire of love is to gather and that is what she did and what she does now even to this day - we are gathered by her love because it was so great. For this we are all blessed and we can rest assured she is with our Savior, Jesus Christ. We have lost her light and her love here on our pilgrimage on Earth, but Heaven has gained an unfathomable treasure to which we rejoice.
Lyndia was preceded in death by her parents, NB Grady & Susan Grady, her sister, Claudia Grady, Her husband Robert E. Matthews, and her son Robert Bryan Matthews.
Lyndia is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
