Lynda's obituary

Lynda Lee Austin ( Brown), passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at a hospice in Mooresville, Indiana, at the age of 82. Born on October 6, 1942, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Lynda lived a life marked by resilience, devotion to family, and unwavering faith.

Lynda was educated in Catholic schools and graduated from St. Mary High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. A lifelong Roman Catholic, her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. She found strength and solace in her beliefs and continued to participate in Mass through televised services during her later years when mobility became more difficult.

A devoted mother of six children—Francis Austin; Bryan Austin and his wife Tina; Dawn Austin; John Austin and his wife Jeni; Gary Austin and his wife Sheila; and Diane Austin—Lynda created a home that was not only a haven for her own family but also a welcoming place for neighborhood children. Her door was always open, and she embraced all who entered with warmth and acceptance, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender.

Lynda’s nurturing spirit extended across generations. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought joy to her life. Among her grandchildren are Alisha Schwenk, Nathan Laney, Ryan Shankey, Patrick Shankey, Kelia Kuschke, Julius Austin, Jared Austin, Hannah Taylor, Joseph Austin, Joshua Austin, Collin Birchem, Peyton Birchem, Joel Austin, and Joseph Austin.

Throughout her life, Lynda worked full time until retirement—a testament to her dedication and work ethic. Even as age brought physical limitations in recent years, she remained deeply connected to those she loved through phone calls and visits. She found comfort in familiar routines and favorite television programs such as *Murdoch Mysteries*, *Midsomer Murders*, *The View*, *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*, and Sunday morning TV Mass.

Lynda is survived by her brother Gary Guthery. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Delores Ardis Guthery and her brother Edward Guthery.

Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched with kindness that knew no bounds and a heart that welcomed all. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church 1723 I Street, Bedford, IN
