Lyla Hoke passed away on March 31, 2016 at the age of 4 months after developing Turner’s Syndrome (according to our OB/Gyn, Dr. Laura Sporl).

Lyla passed in Federal Way, WA on March 31, 2016 to parents, Jessica Hoke and Gabriel Vega.

She was the baby sister of Ubbe Vega.

Lyla’s memory will forever be cherished by the Hoke, Vega, Larson and Martin families.

Considering how beautiful Jessica is, Lyla would have been just as beautiful.

The only encouragement Jessica and I shared is when we watched the movie, The Shack together, knowing she would be in a better place.

I honored Jessica’s wishes of not having a funeral. I did contact DSHS, Catholic Charities, the Army and Turner Foundation, but they are unable to donate a headstone and burial plot. Working with the Tears Foundation and the Veteran’s Administration.

Dear Lyla,

Your precious mother named you after the movie, August Rush.

She and I used to watch movies together; August Rush was one of our favorites.

When Jessica and I watched The Shack together; I wept during the scene an hour and half into the movie.

The doctors told us you passed because of Turner’s Syndrome. Many years ago, I stayed with a family whose daughter had Turners. She was precious, strong and smart. She ran a ranch with her mother, took care of her aging mother, was very kind and sensitive.

My world collapsed after your passing. I wanted to have a strong family with your grandfather.

I cannot put in words what you meant to me, nor Jessica.

This is a picture of your grandfather, me and your mother when she was little.

Your name means “island girl”; it is a Scottish name. It also means “delicate”. Your name also means, “beauty, elegance, and grace, as well as a strong sense of individuality and independence.”

Your grandfather, Kyle and I met at Christian Faith Center. We were members of Northwest Foursquare Church when Jessica was pregnant with you.

Included is a picture of the Hoke family and a picture of your mom and dad. Your father’s name is Gabriel Vega.

Gabriel’s mother’s name is Jennifer Martin-Larson. She remarried an African American man. They raised Gabriel with a Catholic upbringing.

The English/Ferry family:

Uncle Lyndon + Aunt Vivienne Ferry raised me in Ridgefield, CT.

We were members of Jessie Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. Aunt Vivienne told me if I ever married a Catholic boy she would disown me. God rest her soul. I prefer Pentacostal/Charismatic churches.

Uncle Lyndon worked for the post office, a golfer and an active member of the Lion’s club. Aunt Vivienne was a stay-at-home mother.

They had 6 children and many grand- and great-grandchildren. They also fostered many children throughout their lifetime.

Your grandmother, Linda Bailey/English/Evers/Jeffcoat asked to have her ashes scattered; she passed in 2008.
