Lydia's obituary
Obituary for Lydia Sue Gardiner
Lydia Sue Gardiner, 72, of Elk, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.
She was born on July 5, 1953, in Snyder, Texas, to Mozelle Sweeney and Charles Epperson, who preceded her in death.
Lydia devoted her life to faith, family, and service. A valiant and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found joy in serving others and especially loved working on family history and genealogy. She was also a homemaker and shared her talents as a special education and speech therapist, blessing the lives of countless children and families through her career.
Above all, Lydia cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was the most important part of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on for generations.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years David Gardiner, five sons: Sheon (Mandy) , Brian, Jaron (Wendy), Devin (Elise), and Wyatt (Rebekah); 19 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Lydia enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and was even remembered for her adventurous spirit—including her playful “pig riding.” Her hands were rarely idle, and her heart was always open.
A graveside memorial will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Elk Cemetery located at 41378 N Madison Rd, Elk, Washington, with burial to follow.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that Lydia has returned home to her Heavenly Father.
