Luis "LUCHO" Campón Grasso, 98, of Bedford, TX, passed away on July 13, 2022 after an 8-year battle with dementia. Luis was born on May 5th, 1924 to Juan Manuel Campón and Eugenia Grasso in San José, Uruguay. He was the second child of 9 brothers and sisters. He lost his elder brother at birth and they told his mother she would never be able to have any more children. Then Lucho came along. He was a hard-working man since he was a child. He would get up very early in the morning to work on their family farm. He went to school on a horse called "La Petiza" (the short one) and told us a couple of stories about riding to school. The one I remember the most is when a few friends spook the mare and she took him straight to school while he bounce off one stirrup sweeping the floor.  He ended up full of thorns and had to go back home. He quit school in the 4th grade and worked on the farm and played soccer.

When his family moved to the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo, he worked early and long hours for his uncle Luis at the local market. Later on, the 4 brothers opened a tire company named, Campón Hermanos. This company grew to form a bigger company named CAMSA (Campón and Assoc.) where they expanded to retreading tires as well. Luis Alberto was CAMSA's foreman. This company was his pride and joy.

In 1957, he met Maria O Pablo, and they wed in 1962, going on to have 3 children, José Luis, Marcelo Miguel, and Adriana Inés.


Luis was a force of nature getting up at 4:30 am to drink his "mate" and get ready for work, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Luis was also passionate about soccer and could often be found watching his favorite team Peñarol on TV.  Luis loved his family very much especially all his Campón relatives back in Uruguay. 

In his later years, he enjoyed traveling to Uruguay to visit his loved ones and staying there for a few months a year. Here at home, he would take pride in watering the garden and flower beds, cleaning the pool, and staying active as much as he could around the house.

Luis was predeceased by his 3 year old sister Irmita, father Juan Manuel, mother Eugenia, and brothers Manolo and Raúl. He is survived by his younger brother Américo (Meco), and two younger sisters Gladys and Celia (Chela), his eldest son José Luis (wife Karina and 3 grandchildren Mateo, Ian, & Thiago) , son Marcelo (wife Kari and granddaughters Liliana and Emilia), daughter Adriana (husband Tim grandson Luis and granddaughter Verónica), and ex-wife Maria Ofelia Pablo.


The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Adriana Dollar, 3809 Cambridge Circle East, Bedford TX 76021 or in lieu of flowers, consider a gift to Alzheimer's Research & Prevention Foundation.  There will be a Funeral Mass on August 2nd at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Bedford, followed by burial at Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless.

Luis "LUCHO" Campón Grasso, de 98 años, de Bedford, TX, falleció el 13 de julio de 2022 después de una batalla de 8 años contra la demencia.

Luis nació el 5 de mayo de 1924 de Juan Manuel Campón y Eugenia Grasso en San José, Uruguay. Fue el segundo hijo de 9 hermanos y hermanas. Perdió a su hermano mayor al nacer y le dijeron a su madre que nunca podría tener más hijos. Pero llegó Lucho. Fue un hombre trabajador desde niño. Se levantaba muy temprano en la mañana para trabajar en la granja de su familia. Iba a la escuela en una yegua llamada "La Petiza" y nos contó un par de anécdotas sobre ir a la escuela cabalgando. La que más recuerdo es cuando unos amigos espantaron a la yegua y ella lo llevó directo a la escuela mientras rebotaba en un estribo barriendo el piso. Acabó lleno de espinas y tuvo que volver a casa. Dejó la escuela en cuarto grado, trabajó en la granja y jugó al fútbol.

Cuando su familia se mudó a la capital de Uruguay, Montevideo, trabajaba temprano y muchas horas para su tío Luis en el mercado local. Más tarde, los 4 hermanos abrieron una empresa de neumáticos llamada Campón Hermanos. Esta empresa creció para formar otra empresa más grande llamada CAMSA (Campón y Asoc.) donde también se expandieron al recauchutado de neumáticos. Luis Alberto era el capataz de CAMSA. Esta empresa era su orgullo y alegría.

En 1957 conoció a María O Pablo, se casaron en 1962, pasando a tener 3 hijos, José Luis, Marcelo Miguel y Adriana Inés. Luis era una fuerza de la naturaleza que se levantaba a las 4:30 am para tomar su "mate" y prepararse para el trabajo, decidido mantener a su familia y darles la vida que sentía que se merecían. A Luis también le apasionaba el fútbol y a menudo se le podía encontrar viendo a su equipo favorito, Peñarol, en la televisión. Luis amaba mucho a su familia, especialmente a todos sus parientes en Uruguay.

En sus últimos años, disfrutaba viajar a Uruguay para visitar a sus seres queridos y quedarse allí unos meses al año. Aquí en casa, se enorgullecía de regar el jardín y las flores, limpiar la piscina y mantenerse activo tanto como pudiera en la casa.

Luis falleció antes que su hermana Irmita de 3 años, su padre Juan Manuel, su madre Eugenia y sus hermanos Manolo y Raúl. Le sobreviven su hermano menor Américo (Meco) y dos hermanas menores Gladys y Celia (Chela), su hijo mayor José Luis (esposa Karina y 3 nietos Mateo, Ian y Thiago), hijo Marcelo (esposa Kari y nietas Liliana y Emilia), hija Adriana (esposo Tim nieto Luis y nieta Verónica), y ex esposa María Ofelia Pablo.

La familia solicita que todas las flores y notas se envíen a Adriana Dollar, 3809 Cambridge Circle East, Bedford TX 76021 o, en lugar de flores, considere una donación a la Alzheimer's Research & Prevention Foundation. Habrá una misa fúnebre el 2 de agosto a las 10:00 am en la iglesia católica de St. Michael en Bedford, seguida de un entierro en el cementerio Bear Creek en Euless.
