We mournfully announce the passing of Lugenia Evelyn Exum, 80, of Garner, NC. Lugenia ("Jean" as she was affectionately known) passed away on December 28, 2022, after a hard fought battle with heart disease,diabetes and Alzheimers.

Jean, born to  the late Bennie Exum and Catherine Staton Exum, took her first breath on September 08, 1942 . Jean was a force to be reckoned with from the get go, graduating from Phillips High School in 1959 and attended Winston Salem State for 4 years majoring in elementary education. She was a talented educator. She was creative and inventive.  She worked as a pre-school teacher at Breukelen Nursery Center in Canarsie Brooklyn. She retired after 40 years at the same site. While Jean never married, she lived a full and vibrant life with more friends and close connections to family than you could count. Her nephews and nieces meant more to her than words can describe and family was very important to her.  When Lugenia retired, she devoted most of her time to her church & community interests.  She was also an active member of her church , Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Jamaica, NY . We will miss her dearly.   She is survived by her by three siblings Dezretta Johnson of Lillington NC,  Ulyssess Exum (Joyce) of Piscataway NJ and Walter Exum (Marilyn) of Durham, NC and a host of neices and nephews. Services will be held at Walker Funeral Home 163 Irene Roberts Road Lilllington NC . In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alheimers Assocation of America.
