Lucy's obituary

Lucy Maria (Dallaire) Peno passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024, in San Luis Obispo, California, at the age of 90 while under hospice care at the Welcome Home Residential Care Facility. She was a loving wife to Normand Peno for almost 68 years and a devoted mother to Leonard (Audrey), Linda Mello, Michael (Donna), and Steven. Lucy was a cherished grandmother to Nicholas, Joseph Mello, Christopher Mello, and great-grandson Markus. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born on September 9, 1933, in Andover, Massachusetts, Lucy was known for her kind and selfless nature. She always prioritized others, remaining optimistic and seeing the best in everyone. Lucy dedicated herself to her family, raising her children with love and care. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, starting as a tag girl in a shoe factory, crafting toys at Nashua Plastics, and later serving as a payroll clerk at Jamie Shoe Company. However, her most notable endeavor was her dedicated involvement in helping run Mrs. Robinson's Pies, the family business in Aptos, California, from 1972 to 1984.

During her leisure moments, Lucy found joy in crocheting, crafting blankets and pichous (slippers) for her loved ones. In Aptos, she enjoyed spending time with friends, and generously volunteered her time visiting residents of a local nursing home, offering comfort and companionship. Retiring early, Lucy and Norm embarked on a multitude of adventures across the country, living full-time in their RV for over 24 years. During this time Lucy found joy in leisurely strolls amidst nature, particularly those enjoyed near the ocean.

Lucy had a deep affection for all animals, and she passed on that love to each of her children. She had a particular fondness for cats, whether they were the beloved companions she cared for while living in Aptos or the cherished feline friends of her children.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Arsenia Dallaire, her siblings Yvonne, Fernand, Laureva, Jeannette, Leonel, and Annabelle, as well as her sons-in-law Peter Mello and George Chacon.

Per Lucy's wishes, no memorial service will be held. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choice.

Rest peacefully, Lucy. Your legacy of kindness and love will endure for generations to come.
