Lucy's obituary

Lucille Lerner, 83, passed away peacefully at the Joe Raso Hospice Center in New City, New York. Born in Manhattan, New York, Lucy lived a life rooted in family, warmth, and quiet joy.

Lucy was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Cindy Augenstein, and by her parents, Claire and Morris Trapkin.

Lucy is survived by her daughter Bonnie Huffield and her husband Tim; her cherished grandchildren Casey Szklany (and husband Sean) and Lindsey Davey (and husband Jack); and her adored great-grandchildren Luke and Jace Szklany, all of whom knew her lovingly as “Nanny.” She is also survived by her sister Arlene Feldman, and nieces Erica Bordanaro (and husband Tom) and Stephanie Suissa, as well as Erica and Tom’s children, Sam and Jack.

Lucy spent her career as an administrative assistant, a role that suited her reliability, organization, and dedication. She took pride in her work and in being someone others could always count on. After retiring, she continued to share those qualities in a part-time role at the Fountain View Assisted Living Facility, where she worked closely with seniors as an arts and crafts teacher.

She enjoyed watching soap operas and playing games, especially ones with a payout—scratch-off lottery tickets were truly her jam. Above all else, Lucy adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them, from Friday nights together playing Boggle and eating treats, to watching them grow up and start families of their own.

Two of the proudest and happiest days of Lucy’s life were witnessing the weddings of Casey to Sean and Lindsey to Jack, moments she held close to her heart. She also found immense joy in the privilege of being a great-grandmother to Luke and Jace. She was deeply grateful to her daughter Bonnie, who lovingly took on the role of caregiver. And in true family tradition, her mother’s brisket recipe and matzoh ball soup will live on for generations, beloved staples that carry her memory and love forward.

Lucy will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her quiet humor, and the deep love she gave so freely. She will be dearly missed.
