Luana's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luana Butterfield on June 9, 2025. Luana was born on June 15, 1941, and through her 83 years, she filled her life and the lives of those around her with kindness, brilliance, and an unwavering zest for life.

Luana was a confidant, a source of strength and wisdom to many. She was thoughtful, caring, kind, and deeply committed to her work. Throughout her life, she taught us many lessons, the most significant being, "This too shall pass". This wisdom will remain as part of her enduring legacy.

Luana was a renowned artist and a knowledgeable docent at the Bellevue Arts Museum. Her hands crafted beauty, often including her favorite color blue, not only through her art but also in the comfort of her home and her magnificent garden. She was passionate about art and gardening, dedicating a significant part of her life to them.

A devoted wife, mother and sister, Luana is survived by her husband John, sons Chris and Peter, and sisters Susan Burke, Trudy Berg, Donna St. John, and all their family members. Her family was her heart, and she was theirs. She left a profound impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She also loved her friends deeply.

Luana was an avid fan of music. One of her favorite songs was 'Respect' by Aretha Franklin, and she enjoyed the rhythms and lyrics of John Mayer, and Sir Elton John. She loved the piano, often waking her son Chris up to the sounds of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.. over and over. Music was just one of the many ways she expressed her vibrant personality.

One of Luana's favorite ways to keep fit was playing soccer. Even well into her 50s, she kept herself on the field, moving with the agility and grace that defined her spirit. She made many friends on the field, and was known as a fierce combatant. She was an avid supporter of her favorite sports team, the Sounders.

An ardent reader, Luana was especially fond of the Lord of the Rings series later in life to the point that she based many of her gardens upon the series for her grandchildren. Of course she was also a big mystery novel fan with favorites including Nelson Demille, and Lee Childs. Of course she was also a fan of the action adventure with favorites like Michael Crichton. Long story short, she loved reading. She taught her son Chris how to read when he was only five years old. Her love for these narratives was insatiable and her spirit resonated with the mystique of these tales.

A Celebration of Life for Luana will be held on October 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Italianissimo Ristorante. As we gather to remember Luana, we recall her favorite local spot, Molbaks, and imagine her there, surrounded by the beauty she loved so much. We wish her well on this next journey through the gardens of Middle Earth.

Luana's legacy will be her kindness and the confidence she instilled in many. Her life was a testament to her unconditional love, and she will be deeply missed.
