Lowell's obituary
Lowell Spencer Young affectionately called "Uncle Lowe” departed this life on January 15, 2024, after a valiant battle with cardiovascular disease. Uncle Lowe was a natural comedian who loved to make us laugh with his “voice impressions”. His love for music was often heard throughout his childhood home until his mother would yell, “turn that noise down” (insert smile). He played several instruments but specialized in playing the drums. Second to his love of music was culinary – he loved food and developing “Lowe’s original recipes” –he worked for a period of time in culinary, supporting the food service department for various government and private entities. He loved animals – he had a special love for his former dog “Stink”.
Lowell was born June 19, 1965, in the District of Columbia. He grew up in the DC area until the family moved to Suitland, Maryland. He graduated from Croom Vocational High School in Cheltenham, Maryland where he studied carpentry and masonry. Lowell worked as a skilled tradesman - his career path afforded him opportunities to assist with new home development, building and grounds maintenance, electrical apprenticeship and many other roles associated with construction, refurbishing and tradesmen duties. Before his passing he worked as a maintenance technician for a local catholic church. He was very crafty; loved to build and create. He would often engineer various still life model cars as a hobby or re-engineer music equipment to create new sounds. Lowell was a gentle soul; he was a jokester and he loved to laugh!
He was the youngest son of Lester Young, Sr. and Gwendolyn Young. He is survived by his mother, Gwendolyn; brother, David; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; sisters-in-law, a "brother from another mother" Bernard Russell and a host of good friends. He will forever be in our hearts.
You will be missed, Uncle Lowe – We Love You!
Lowell made the decision to donate his body to support the life of others, research, and education. We will have a celebration to honor the life of "Uncle Lowe" in the near future, however, the family will not have a traditional service. We ask that you post memories or photos you would like to share as a tribute via the “Memories” tab on this site. We would be very grateful to receive your tributes.
Thank you.
