Louise's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louise "Mutt" Shaffer, who left this world on May 9, 2024. Born October 20, 1937, Louise, also affectionately known as Mutt, was a beacon of love, loyalty, and perseverance to all who knew her.

Louise is survived by her beloved sons, Dan, Barry, Michael, and Mark Shaffer, and her  sisters, Shirley Carrol, Ruth Adams, and Jean Rawls. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Alvin Shaffer, and her siblings, Willie James Bilyeu, Tommy Bilyeu, and Mary Sue Bilyeu.

Louise tied the knot with Alvin Shaffer in 1956, a union that brought joy, laughter, and an abundance of love into their lives. They were blessed with their firstborn in 1958, followed by the birth of three more sons - milestones that brought immense happiness and fulfilment to their life together.

Before marriage, in 1955, Louise served her country by joining the Army WACS, an experience that instilled in her a deep sense of dedication and resilience. She was a faithful attendee of the Springfield Nazarene Church, where she not only found spiritual solace but also formed invaluable connections with the community.

A firm believer in giving back to society, Louise volunteered at several service organizations, including the Prison Fellowship Ministries, Angel Tree Ministry, and The Seeing Eye. Her selfless spirit and ceaseless dedication to serve humanity were truly inspirational.

Louise had a deep appreciation for the music of the Cathedral Quartet and all Southern Gospel Music and embraced an active lifestyle filled with camping, fishing, hiking, and various outdoor activities. She also enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, and, most importantly, spending time with her friends and family.

Described as loving, faithful, loyal, funny, and caring, Louise shared invaluable lessons on how to be a good person and treat others with kindness and respect. Her legacy of kindness, loyalty, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.

Louise Shaffer was a remarkable woman who touched many lives with her benevolence and positivity. She will be sorely missed, but her spirit will forever remain a guiding light for all who knew her.
