Louisa's obituary

Louisa Brady, cherished matriarch of the Brady family, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, just two days before her 93rd birthday.

Born September 17, 1932, in Grace, Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia to James Louis Fontenelle and Henrilia Charles Louis-Fontenelle, Louisa was one of eleven siblings. In her twenties, she moved to London and later New York, working as a seamstress and living among family. There she met her devoted husband, Roy Brady, whom she married in 1965.

Louisa and Roy settled in Springfield, Massachusetts, where they raised four sons: Louis, Ronald, Brian, and Steven. The family were faithful parishioners of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church for over 40 years, later joining Saint Michael’s Cathedral Parish. Even when mobility challenges kept her home, Louisa remained spiritually engaged, watching Sunday services and singing along from her living room.

A nurturing and spirited woman, Louisa cared for 14 foster children, worked in food service at Cathedral High School and Springfield College, and created a welcoming home for all who entered. In her later years, she lived at Quail Run and Wellington retirement communities before relocating to Worcester in 2025 to be closer to family. She was lovingly supported by a devoted circle of caregivers, many of whom affectionately called her “Mama.”

Known as “Grandma Zaza” to her grandchildren and “Aunt Lou” or “Auntie Zaza” to nieces, nephews, and cousins, Louisa was deeply loved. She was predeceased by her husband Roy (2010), her parents, and siblings Agnes, Alexandrine, Bernard, Lucille, Levy, Flora, and Lewis.

She is survived by her sons Louis (Lisa), Ronald (Carla), Brian (Loretta), and Steven (Michelle); foster son Guy Wills; sisters Mary Anna Daniel and Luvina Samue; nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and foster children.

Louisa lived a life of love, strength, and generosity. May she rest in peace.
