Louis “Sonny” Augustus Watson, 80 of Portsmouth, Virginia passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025 at Maryview hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, Louis was born on May 23, 1945 to Louis and Catherine Watson.

Louis joined the army in 1966, and during his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Expert Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Drivers Badge. Throughout his life, Louis was known for his love of music and tv- having nightly concerts and tv marathons, rescuing cats, fishing, and working on cars. In his spare time he enjoyed feeding rotisserie chicken to his beloved cats, trolling people on Facebook (where he was eventually banned), tinkering on virtually every lawnmower in the neighborhood, and spending time with his best friends. He always had a fascinating story to tell about his time in the army and later his career in professional baseball.

Louis is survived by his children, Loraine and Charles Watson; grandchildren, Breana Watson, Kyla Gray, Isabella Watson, Riley Watson; and great grandchildren, Giabella Lewis and Melissa Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Catherine Watson; his sister, Loretta Wilkins; and his children Sheryl and Sheren Watson.
