Louis's obituary

With profound sorrow, we note the passing of Louis Roman on August 6, 2025. Born in 1971, Louis danced through life at the rhythm of his own beat. He was a father, step-dad, brother, uncle, and friend, whose larger than life smile, potent spirit, and warm personality will be sorely missed.

Louis is survived by his children: daughters Alzebeth (Tony) Scialabba and Julie (Ethan) Sierra, and sons Vincent (Allie) Michalka, Tristan (Skylar) Pickney, Louis Roman Jr., Daekwon Roman. He also leaves behind six grandchildren (with one more on the way), his sister, Wendy, and two brothers. While not related by blood, Louis also had many others who called on him as family. Louis was predeceased by his loving parents, Elizabeth and Vicente Roman, and older sister, Cindy Roman, to whom he now returns.

Louis' joys were simple, but rich. He adored his pet turtle, "Pita", who brought him companionship. He was passionate about cooking, especially dishes that honored his Puerto Rican heritage and his upbringing as a proud "NuYoRican". He also loved fishing and was often in the midst of planning his next trip.

Louis’s journey was not easy, but it was real and it was human. He experienced many hardships during his life, including alcoholism, and endured a period of homelessness during the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, in recent years, he worked with the "Just Do It Movement" on gaining the necessary tools and resources to move into McCreesh Place. Fondly known as "Mr. Lou" or "Mr. Lou Lou", Louis created community at McCreesh and worked tirelessly to try and build a better life.

As we reflect upon and celebrate Louis’s life, in place of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to assist with the final resting arrangements. His children are planning a celebration of life followed by a spreading of his ashes in Puerto Rico.

May Louis’s kind and compassionate spirit guide us all, as we remember his enduring love, his laughter, and his lessons of resilience. His memory will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Yu at Carolinas Medical Center, Shelby & Annette at McCreesh Place, and Jessica Gibson with the "Just Do It" Movement for their support and care.
