How you can help

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved historian and chef, Louie Casiello. Anyone who knew Louie knew him for his hard work and excellence in the kitchen. He and his brother Nick ran successful pizzerias since they were 17. Louie also shared the culinary gifts inherited from his father in restaurants across Long Island. Sadly, his long career came to an abrupt end after a debilitating back injury left him unable to work and in constant pain.
About two months ago, things were looking better. Louie had finally been cleared for a life-changing surgery; one that would give him his mobility back and allow him to return to the kitchen. While the procedure was successful, a bleeding ulcer caused him to aspirate three days after his surgery. Although Louie was brought back, his brain was deprived of oxygen far too long. Today, April 25th 2024, Louie lost his battle to come back to us. He is now with his parents, his brother Wally, his Uncle Billy, his Aunt Phyllis and his dog Roscoe.
Unfortunately, dedicating his life to running his own businesses and sharing his skill in the kitchen did not offer many opportunities for health or life insurance. The time from work and medical care that followed his back injury have drained his finances.
Donations to this fund will go to pay for final expenses to lay Louie to rest. Anything you can give in memory of this amazing man is greatly appreciated. We will miss him forever, but we take comfort in knowing he is somewhere with the air conditioner on full blast, watching old movies with a few dogs curled up beside him. And, hopefully, someone is cooking for him for a change.
Rest easy, chef. As you wish.
