Loucas's obituary

Loucas Vacracos, age 85, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Vacracos; children, Jim Vacracos (Caroline Vacracos), Dena Guptill (Steve Guptill), David Markovich (Noi Markovich), John Markovich (Kristin Markovich), Joel Markovich; grandchildren, Loucas Vacracos, Lily Vacracos, Eli Guptill, Pylynn Markovich, Nathan Markovich, Alaina Markovich, Tara (and family).

Preceded in death by his parents (names unknown); siblings, Efi Milonas, Sophia Krilis; grandson, Stevie Guptill, and cousin Cleopatra.

Loucas was born November 7th, 1939 in Anafiotika, a village in Athens, Greece. Loucas came to America as a young man eager to build his empire. On February 19th, 2000, he married the love of his life Sharon, and together they spent 25 years together, settling down in Crown Point, Indiana where he would run his business– B + L Painting and Decorating.

Loucas and Sharon met while ballroom dancing, a hobby they both enjoyed together for many years. He had various interests– Loucas belonged to a watch club, focusing on antique clocks and pocket watches. Loucas and Sharon attended many antique shows together, often setting up their own booths and shops. He had a knack for decorating, even winning an Award of Excellence for his decorating work in the Parade of Homes. Loucas enjoyed attending Greek festivals, reminiscing about the foods and culture of his homeland. He was a well traveled man. Loucas and Sharon attended Bethel Church in Crown Point, Indiana. He truly loved God, his faith was strong and he trusted in Jesus Christ– in the end, Loucas was ready to embrace Him.

Loucas was a loving son, father, grandfather and husband. He was a faithful servant to Jesus Christ. Though he is no longer with us, his love, wisdom, and kindness will remain in our hearts forever. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will live on in the lives of those he cherished.

Memorial services and prayer will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home; 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN.
