Lorraine's obituary
Born November 28, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Stefania (Bielatowicz) Chciuk.
Mrs. Kaminski attended Northeastern High School through 1946 after which she began her career as an office clerk, working for, among other companies, Crowley’s Department Stores and R. C. Mahon Company as well as later working in the family business, General Engineering.
In 1957, she married the late Henry Kaminski, the love of her life. Together they served generously in their church as well as in Child Evangelism Fellowship. In teaching children about God’s love, Lorraine found her own voice, something she didn’t realize existed. She served as a Sunday school teacher and AWANA leader at Community Baptist Church in South Bend; at Carbondale Bible Church in Tulsa; at Faith Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan; and at Calvary Baptist Church in Roseville. Since moving to South Carolina to be near her family, Mrs. Kaminski was a faithful member at Hampton Park Baptist Church and Taylors First Baptist.
Mrs. Kaminski loved people and her family most of all. Lorraine was a consummate diplomat as well as genuinely curious, enjoying conversations about recipes and the outdoors as well as politics--from Roosevelt to Buttigieg. Everyone who conversed with her—whether stranger or grandchild—left feeling heard, safe, and loved. She spent her final hours with her family gathered around, laughing and reminiscing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers, Steven, Edward, and Harry, as well as her granddaughter Elise Lewis. Surviving are her sister, Stella Chrzanowski; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sarah Kaminski; her daughter and son-in-law Camille and Grant Lewis; her grandchildren Molly, Amelia, and Camille Kaminski and Isaac and Gavin Lewis. She is also survived by her nieces, Laurie Meek and Camille Wieder, and nephew Martin Singer. We are all honored and blessed to know and love our sister, mom, aunt, and grandmother and will miss her greatly.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Chapel of Taylors First Baptist Church at 200 West Main Street, Taylors, with the Rev. Dwight Wagner officiating. Lorraine donated her body to the Gift of Body program at the University of South Carolina.
