Lorraine's obituary

She passed away peacefully at home on May 7 surrounded by her family. Answer: Who is Lorraine Jurek? And 15 minutes before Jeopardy no less! Lorraine was born on July 21, 1956, and was a proud life-long resident of Edgewater. Along with her parents Hilda and William, she was pre-deceased by her brother Marty, niece Jessie and brother-in-law Artie. And the thought of that group together now, is both endearing and frightening! She is survived by her sisters Barbara and Christine (Pete), and brothers Billy and Tombo (Sheila), and her loving nieces and nephews John (Cathy), Alex (Tara), Jennifer (Trista), Hanna (Larissa), Adam (Sara), Colleen, John, Luke and Danny. As well as many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins, still with us or passed. Lorraine truly loved her family and friends. She also loved the Yankees, Walgreens, movies and her tv shows. I pity anyone who has ever tried calling her during Jeopardy! And board games. She was ruthless if you didn’t play by the rules! She also loved her music. From Jackson Browne to Bonnie Raitt to some obscure Turkish reggae band, she couldn’t get enough. Oh and Irish music! She loved the movie The Commitments so much that she traveled to Ireland and even named one of her beloved dogs Deco after one of the characters. She had a great sense of humor. Always ready for a laugh and a great story. Her accomplishments throughout her life were varied. From authoring the 1966 classic “My Housekeeping Book”, to being a two-time winner of the coveted “Vic” board and Trabulsi backgammon tournament. Lorraine’s life was strong, courageous, fun, generous, honest and devoted. And she was always tough when she needed to be. Some might say that Lorraine didn’t die, the game just ended. Services will be limited and announced at a later date.
