Lorraine's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Armstrong. Born on November 28, 1943, Lorraine ended her earthly journey on June 4, 2024. She will always be remembered as a smart, caring, and vibrant soul. Lorraine enjoyed a long life filled with love and adventures with her husband and family members. She was always up for a gathering, a caper, or a quest. Often as a child, her whole family would pile into the family car for long road trips. She saw much of the country this way.
Known for her intelligence and talent, Lorraine had a sparkle in her eye and an onery grin, and an infectious laugh that lit up any room she entered. Always quick with a one-liner she would often catch people off guard with her wit. These qualities served as a beacon of inspiration for all who knew her. Lorraine believed passionately that one could be anything they aspired to be. She encouraged everyone around her to never give up on their dreams and to generously share talents. Cooking, painting, playing the banjo, embroidering, gardening, adding to her collections, and spending time with friends and family were her favorite past-times. Her pie making skills were legendary.
Lorraine worked many jobs in her adult life. These included selling Shaklee, Mary Kay, and Princess House Crystal. However, she spent most of her career in the insurance industry. She retired not long after moving to the mountains of central Pennsylvania. Living in the mountains was a dream of hers and her husband. They felt incredibly blessed to own their own little piece of heaven on the mountain. She drew her last breath on the mountainside in the peace of her own home. She was blessed to be cared for by Hospice visiting nurses, her son, his family, and her daughter.
Of her many accomplishments, Lorraine said that raising her three wonderful children was her most significant achievement. Though it was often a challenge and there were many trials, she found great joy in sharing this task with her beloved husband, Francis Armstrong Jr. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren attending their events and being with them for holidays and family celebrations. Her spirit of resilience was an inspiration to us all.
Lorraine's legacy lies not just in her accomplishments, but in her teachings and love. She firmly believed that the greatest gifts one could offer were time and love, and she lived her life as a testament to this virtue. Lorraine's memory lives on, inspiring us all to be there for those we love. She was very active in her religious community as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her enduring faith never waivered.
Lorraine leaves behind her three children Francis Armstrong, III and his wife Christina, Dawn Anderson and her husband Chris, and Sara Armstrong. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Frances D'Angelo and Mary Robyn, and two brothers, Albert Mayer and Roger Mayer.
A Celebration of Life for Lorraine will be held on June 29, 2024, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 50 Ragged Edge Rd, Chambersburg, PA. Friends and family are invited to remember and celebrate Lorraine's vibrant life, sharing stories, laughter, and tears.
Though Lorraine will be deeply missed, there is peace in knowing that she has returned to the arms of our Father and her loving husband, Francis. Her light continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Lorraine Armstrong, an unforgettable soul, forever cherished.
