Loretta's obituary
Loretta Ann (Wesson) Hollins, affectionately known as “Sunny” passed on January 8, 2024 unexpectedly in Columbia, South Carolina.
Loretta was the first-born daughter of Rhanders and Clarene (Harrison) Wesson in Gary, Indiana on January 20, 1943. She was the oldest sister to Charlotte and Rhanetta
Loretta and her sisters enjoyed attending Israel CME Church with their doting Grand Parents W.C. and Sophenia Wesson.
Loretta graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1961, where she enjoyed her role as Head Majorette. She attended Texas College after graduation, and later Washington University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harris-Stowe State University in 1990
She was formerly married to William D. Hollins in 1962, from this marriage two sons Gregory and Darryl, and one daughter Michele were born. She was also formerly married to Charles Ferguson in 1977.
After a career at Southwestern Bell, Mercantile Bank, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Lambert Airport, Clark Atlanta University and AT&T in various administrative and clerical positions before retirement. Sunny enjoyed cooking, crafts and decorating projects of all kinds. Her children and grandchildren were the “Sunshine” of her life. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. No one was ever a stranger, witnessed by the great number of friends, bonus children and acquaintances made along her life travels.
Loretta was predeceased by her Grandparents W.C. and Sophenia, her parents Rhanders and Clarene, her sister Charlotte and former spouses.
Loretta is survived by her sister Rhanetta Benton (Charles) of Allen, TX; her children Gregory (Jovita) of Brunswick, MD, Darryl (Paulette, formerly) of Poinciana, FL and Michele Cooper (Stacy) of Elgin, SC. Niece Elonda Johnson (Jay) of Dallas TX. Grandchildren Adam Hollins (Casie) of Lubbock,TX; Kendra Smith of Columbia,SC; Sophenia Hollins of Kissimmee, FL; Te’Veon Cooper of Elgin, SC; Sydney Hollins of Kissimmee, FL. A host of loved cousins, nieces, nephws, dear friends, neighbors and residents of AHEPA III and many others who referred to her as Mom, Momma Sunny, Grandma Sunny, Mrs. H and other names of affection.

Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide network of community. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time.
Memorial services will be held on January 22, 2024, from 11am-12 Noon at AHEPA 284 III Senior Apartments (120 Jimmy Love Ln., Columbia, SC 29212). And from 3:00pm-5:00pm at JP Holley Funeral Home, Farrow Road NE Chapel, 9010 Farrow Rd., Columbia, SC 29203
