Lorenzo was the best father-in-law any man could ask for. He was smart, articulate, sincere, and a superior role model, interested in seeing the best come out of all of us. A proud NUPE, he always had a lot of good things to say about his grandkids and his daughter; I loved that about him, and miss him dearly!

Esteemed professor and publisher Lorenzo Martin was a mentor and someone I truly admired. I had the distinct honor of accompanying him on a journalist exploration of Jordan. He regaled everyone with stories from World War II fighting on two fronts:  fighting both the Nazis and segregation at home.

A scholar and historian of the highest rank, he mesmerized with stories about visiting the caves and Pyramids of ancient Nubia in Sudan and running track at his beloved alma mater, University of Illinois. I fondly recall when he was interviewed on national TV declaring that Barack Obama was not the first Black President.

My sincere condolences to Dokari and his  family.
