Loren's obituary
Loren Adrean Smith, 47, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on November 10, 2025 at her home in Carrboro, North Carolina.
Born June 12, 1978, in Durham, Loren was the daughter of Pam (Lorenzo) and Kevin Smith. Family was always at the heart of Loren’s life, especially her greatest joy, being the mom of her son, Dalton Koshada.
Loren was a lifelong creator. From childhood crafts to interior design studies at Randolph Community College, she had a natural eye for beauty and a deep love of making things by hand. Over the years, her creativity filled homes and holidays with handmade ornaments, jewelry, and decorations which were always shared freely with friends and family. Her creativity didn’t stop there; it wandered into the kitchen (and came back out with some truly legendary curry) and into the tiny pottery studio at the Smith home, where she happily rescued “not quite right” pieces that others were ready to discard.
Known for having a pair of glasses for every occasion, Loren embraced life with humor, style, and practicality. Her love for animals, especially dogs, was unmatched and led her to work in veterinary medicine for a time. She had a gift for friendship, forming close bonds early in life and keeping them for decades, a reflection of her generous heart and easygoing spirit.
Loren is survived by her son, Dalton Koshada; parents, Pam and Kevin Smith; grandmother, Jean Lorenzo; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Graham Smith; grandfather, Bernard Lorenzo; and grandparents, Marge and Robert Smith.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Durham County Animal Shelter or Turtle Pants Farm Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, in honor of Loren’s lifelong love of animals.
