Loralee's obituary

Loralee Jo Whitlock was born May 21, 1944 in Los Angeles, California to Archer Byron and Wanda Lee (Ravenscraft) Whitlock Dorrough. On May 31, 2023 she passed peacefully into eternity at her home in Leander, TX surrounded by her loved ones. We who survive her stand as tall testaments to the generational blessings our heavenly Father worked out through her – a family reared in honor and borne out in love. This same love drew animals banal and bizarre to her care: dogs and hedgehogs, ferrets but no parrots. All in her care never lacked food or clothing, even as her circle of care grew with age and wisdom. She loved fiercely and could be at turns joyful, stern, silly or thoughtful, but always warmhearted and generous of spirit to those she held close. She was cherished by many and will be profoundly missed.

Loralee's zest for life found her dabbling in many hobbies and interests. Over the years you could find her horseback riding, getting into a bit of mischief with her friends, painting, swimming at the beach, traveling, hot-rodding in her red Firebird, boating, or snuggling up with a good mystery. She enjoyed macrame, collecting coins and jewelry, dining out with family and friends, bird-watching, photography, and cooking the latest recipe from one of her cookbooks.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and her brothers, Dale Kent Whitlock and Paul Elbea Whitlock. She is proudly survived by her sister, Carole Diane Collins; brother, Mark Elbea Whitlock and his wife, Karen; son, Alan Joseph Dufurrena and his wife, Jamie; daughter, Teresa Lee Short and her husband Brian; daughter, Angela Dawn Dufurrena; her many grandchildren, David Alan Dufurrena, Cassandra Noelle Miller and her husband, Brock, Steven Lee Short and his wife, Keely, Zachary Brian Short and his wife, Amannda, Andrew Ward Butler, Jimmy Bailey Dufurrena and his husband, Rodrigo, Joshua Joseph Dufurrena, and Nicholas Isaac Short and his wife, Leah; and the jewels in her crown, her great grandchildren, Voss Marten Miller and Penelope Leigh Miller. And not to be forgotten, her beloved dog, Sassy, who gave her so much comfort and joy in her final years.
