Lona "Sister Lona Mary" Turner, a woman of deep faith and unyielding perseverance, passed away on March 28, 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on May 20, 1966 in Flower Mound, Texas, was universally known for her lively, light-hearted demeanor and somewhat ornery nature, but it was her unwavering commitment to the service of others that defined her life.
She completed her college studies before embarking on an advanced journey in theology. Not content to merely study the word of God, she chose to serve and was ordained as a Catholic deacon. Lona’s steadfast dedication to self-improvement and self-sufficiency was truly remarkable and serves as a beacon of inspiration for many.
Her legacy, 'Never doubt anyone's ability', is a testament to her enduring faith in the inherent capabilities of each individual. This philosophy, coupled with her own demonstration of overcoming adversities, was one of the greatest life lessons she imparted.
Lona was a devoted deacon of Saint Anne, Mother of Mary Independent Catholic Church. The Church played a pivotal role in her life, nurturing her spiritual growth and strengthening her faith.
Lona is predeceased by her father, John Turner; her mother, Earline Turner; and her brother, Ben Turner. She leaves behind a loving family which includes her sister-in-law, Barbara Turner (Couch) and nephews John, Morgan, Michael, and Timothy Turner along with an extended family through her service to the people of God. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her lessons, faith, and memories will continue to live within all those who knew and cherished her.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Lona's life and legacy will be held on June 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. The Mass will honor and pay tribute to the vibrant and relentlessly optimistic life that was Lona "Sister Lona Mary" Turner.
