Lois's obituary
Lois Evalene Zachman (nee Reish), age 95, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at home in Lorida Florida.
Born on April 11, 1930, in Sebring, Florida, Lois was the daughter of Rev. Joseph and Margaret Reish. She grew up in a home rooted in faith and service, values that would guide her throughout her life. She pursued higher education at Bridgewater College in Virginia.
Lois dedicated her professional life to caring for others through her work at Elgin State Hospital and the Waukegan Developmental Center. Her compassion and commitment to those in need left a lasting impact on the lives she touched during her years of nursing service.
She married William B. Zachman, April 30, 1950, with whom she shared a rich and fulfilling life until his passing. Upon retirement, Bill and Lois settled in Lorida, Florida, where they embraced country living with joy and purpose. Together they tended orange groves and flower gardens, raised cattle, traveled extensively—including memorable hunting trips to Virginia and Montana—and welcomed their grandchildren each summer for cherished visits filled with love and adventure.
A devoted Christian, Lois was an active member of the Church of the Brethren in Lorida. She served faithfully as a deaconess and found great joy singing in the church choir for many years. Her faith was a guiding light that shaped her actions and relationships throughout her life.
Lois found pleasure in simple yet meaningful pastimes such as sewing, crocheting, and working puzzles—activities that reflected her patience, creativity, and attention to detail.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Margaret (Alan) Pigg, Linda (Scott) Schaul, and William Zachman; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Adam) Eastman, Christopher (Nicole) Pigg, Benjamin (Jill) Pigg, Michael (Yudith) Schaul, Mark (Jeannie) Schaul, Kelly (Jim) White, and Kaylee Zachman; as well as ten great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years.
Lois’s legacy is one of devotion—to her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched through both her profession and personal kindness. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Lois wish was to be cremated.
