Lois's obituary

Lois June LaRose (Tarbox), 69, of Plainfield, Connecticut passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 16, 1956 in Norwich to her parents, the late Harris Tarbox and Beverly (Tyler) Tarbox. Lois grew up in Oneco, Connecticut, and married the love of her life, David Roger LaRose, on May 5, 1973. They shared 52 wonderful years of marriage in the home they built together in Plainfield.

She was known for having the coldest hands but the warmest heart, and her contagious smile blessed the lives of everyone around her. She leaves behind her pride and joy, her only son, Ernie LaRose, and his wife, Elizabeth (Gorenski) LaRose. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Andrea, with her wife Lunaria LaRose; Kathryn, with her husband Jaime Alba; and Nicole LaRose. Lois also cherished her four great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Jessica, Marcelo, and Anthony - who brought endless joy to her life. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Wanda, and her husband, Cliff Lyons; her nephew Cody, with his wife, Conar Lyons, and their children; her niece, Aleisha Thompson and family; and she was predeceased by her nephew, Cliff Lyons, Jr. In addition, Lois is survived by her sister-in-law, Sandy Rajewski, and her nephew Steve LaRose and family; her sister-in-law, Blanche Kozak, and her nephew David Armstrong and family; as well as cousins Nancy Boyea and Paula Wholehouse. Lois was blessed with many more extended family members, all of whom she held dear to her heart

Lois dedicated her life to caring for her family, first raising her son as a homemaker, and later taking school pictures as a senior photographer for Lifetouch across southern New England. She was a constant supporter of Dave & Ernie’s passion for car racing, cheering them on for countless weekends at the track, and cooking late-night dinners while they worked on cars in the garage. She never missed a dance recital, school function, or sporting event for her granddaughters. She made a celebration out of any and every occasion and loved having her family together. Her home was decorated for every season, and always filled with warmth and laughter.

Lois loved the beach and the ocean. She and David enjoyed boating for many years, where they made lifelong friends while docked at Shaw’s Cove in New London. Nobody could walk by their slip without grooving to oldies music and sharing a mudslide with Lois, two of her favorite things. They eventually retired to live aboard their boat, the “Dream Come True,” before returning to Plainfield to be closer to family. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The LaRose family would like to recognize her social worker Karen, and all of the devoted medical professionals who helped to care for Lois in her final days, especially her home health aide, Bernadette; and nurses Nicole, Wanda, Carlee, Melody, April, and Jessica. Instead of flowers, her family requests to send gift cards or cash donations to the Mansfield Hospice Office at 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield, CT 06250.

Service Information: Lois always had a strong connection to the Oneco United Methodist Church. A service will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 23rd at the church located at 1128 Plainfield Pike, Oneco, CT. Immediately following the service, a celebration of life reception will take place at the American Legion Post 91 at 66 Prospect St in Moosup, CT.

Lois is to be cremated and her ashes scattered in the Long Island Sound in a private setting coordinated by her husband, in accordance with her wishes.
