Lois's obituary

On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020 at 12:10 AM, Lois Gibson (Sanicola), loving wife, mother, and grandmother was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 70 at LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park.

Lois was born on October 21st, 1949 at 9:51pm in Brooklyn, New York at Lutherans Hospital to Anthony and Anna Sanicola. She was the middle child of the family, between her older brother Larry and younger brother Phillip Sanicola. The Sanicola’s grew up in Ozone Park, Queens. As a young woman, Lois was always surrounded by family and friends. She and her brothers regularly participated in social activities such as the bowling league that their parents had coordinated. Lois was part of the graduating class of 1967 from John Adams High School. She married John Carl Gibson (whom she met at White Weld & Company in 1968) on March 20th, 1971 at her home parish of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ozone Park, NY. They were blessed with over 49 years of marriage. One of the greatest joys of her life was raising their two sons, Craig, and Keith Gibson. She loved children and she taught at a Sunday School while their sons were growing up. Later in life, she decided to pursue a degree in elementary education. She attended CUNY Brooklyn College from 1996 to 2000. One of her greatest accomplishments was receiving her degree while also raising her sons. When she finished school, she taught at PS 45 until her retirement. Her immense kindness and her love for children made her the best grandmother to Craig’s daughter’s Kayla and Gabrielle, and Keith’s children, Zaylan, Tryztan, and Adaliz. She told anyone who would listen how much she loved them. Despite them all living far away from her home in Howard Beach, Queens, she always made an effort to see them as often as possible. Lois also loved spending time with her friends and she regularly had dinner with John and their neighbors. She loved to do karaoke, she was part of a karaoke group called the “Whipped Creams” which performed at La Bella Vita and later at Alba’s. She also loved to go dancing with her friends as well as occasionally spending time in Atlantic City. Her love for her family and friends will always be cherished in their hearts.

Lois is preceded in death by her father, Anthony, and her mother, Anna. Lois is survived by her husband John, her son Craig and his partner Carmen, her son Keith and his wife Ossepha. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kayla, Gabrielle, Zaylan, Tryztan, and Adaliz and her step-granddaughter Francis, her great-granddaughter Anastahsia, her brother’s Larry and Phillip and their families, as well as the loving extended Sanicola and Gibson families.
