Lloyd's obituary
Lloyd Keith Stockwell, cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed on peacefully at home on the morning of October 24, 2024, in the loving care of his wife Joanne.
Born in Orange, California, on May 22, 1938, Lloyd was the first son born to Floyd and Philura Stockwell.
After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard and obtaining a degree in marketing at Long Beach State University (where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity), Lloyd embarked on a 35-year career in aerospace procurement and directorship during one of the most exciting and technically accomplished periods in the history of the industry. His career spanned the eras of the Apollo missions, lunar landings, Space Shuttle development and deployment, and the first GPS satellite technology.
After a life-changing blind date with Brenda Berntsen, Lloyd and Brenda married in 1962, and three sons followed: David, Kenneth, and Daniel. Their many happy years living in Seal Beach included vacationing in their motorhome, cruising with friends, and participating in the activities of their church, Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, in Long Beach.
An avid lover of sports, Lloyd took great joy in coaching his kids and watching them and his grandkids compete. As co-presidents of the Los Alamitos High School Basketball Booster Club in the 1980s, he and Brenda led its fundraising and support activities for over a decade. Golf became a personal passion later in life.
Lloyd took early retirement from Rockwell International at the age of 58 after Brenda suffered a health crisis. Brenda regained most of her health, and they spent many more years enjoying their time together, traveling, and doting on their six grandchildren.
After retirement he developed a new hobby, becoming an Apple/Mac guru. He had over 80 clients and helped with everything from minor fix-its to determining which computer or Apple device to buy, and setting his clients up with applications.
After Brenda passed on, Lloyd embarked on a new chapter of life, marrying longtime close friend and fellow church member Joanne Fernbach. Lloyd and Joanne had many happy years together volunteering with the Philharmonic Society Committees, traveling, golfing, and spending time with a now much larger family.
Trained by his mother, Lloyd was an accomplished pianist and composer. Music was always a part of family life, especially during the holidays when all would gather to sing Christmas carols with Lloyd at the piano.
Lloyd's family and friends will always remember him for his wit, his smile, his generosity, and his strong sense of duty.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his first wife Brenda (Berntsen) Stockwell, parents Floyd and Philura (Felton) Stockwell, in-laws Jack and Anita (Scott) Berntsen, brother Glenn Stockwell, and infant brother David Stockwell. Lloyd will be deeply missed by his wife Joanne Fernbach; his children David (Cyndi) Stockwell, Kenneth (Anne) Stockwell, Daniel (Greta) Stockwell; grandchildren Stephanie, Cassandra, Laurel, JD, Elijah, and Miriam; sibling Richard (Joyce) Stockwell, Glenn's widow Karen Stockwell; great-granddaughter Aurora; and two nephews and four nieces.
At Lloyd's request, there will be no memorial service. A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at a later date.
"For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God." — Romans 8
