My condolences to Lisa’s family. Lisa was my instructor at SFU in 2021 for the CDP program, and I learned so much from Lisa about résumé and cover letter writing.

Our paths would cross shortly after with me getting a job with MNBC and I worked closely with her in the Ministry of STEPS and Ministry of Youth. I looked up to Lisa and saw her as a mentor and a friend. She was so amazing to work with and we had so many laughs together and so many brainstorming sessions on what employment programs we can implement.

I truly will miss Lisa and I’m heartbroken that she is no longer with us. May you rest in peace my friend.

Lisa was a beautiful soul with a kind, generous and ever uplifting spirit. I knew her as a supportive colleague and as a courageous advocate against injustice.

My deepest condolences to her loved ones.

May she rest in Power 🙏🏽✨️

Lisa and I met at Laurentian Universary which feels like yesterday.  Lisa has always been a remarkable women - determined, kind, intelligent, caring, giving and a wonderful mother.  I believe that Heaven just got a little brighter now that Lisa has joined everyone there.  No words can describe our loss! ❤️

I realized today that I have no recollection of first meeting Lisa. For the first 30-odd years of my life she wasn't in it... And then she was. A fixture. We were each other's shadows, finishing each other's sentences, laughing hysterically at the other's jokes or self-deprecating humour. Endless cups of tea. Drives up into Caledon, our daughters yapping in the back seat. Her delicate fingers fiddling with a ring, a pen. She drove me crazy, the way she never put a lot of water in the kettle for tea. She made the best lemon loaf.

Even when she and Laura moved back to Vancouver, and then to Arizona, then back to BC, we never lost touch. Letters, gifts, then video calls that went late into the night. We'd share our news and then I would ask, "how are you? Really...?" She was so honest and open, so brave and determined. Unselfish, always. Able to laugh, even if she was crying. Able to offer comfort, even while she was hurting.

Such a friend.

My sweet Lisa... The night Duncan called with the news of your death, after I'd cried myself hoarse, I wandered outside into the garden of our new home where we'd only been living for a few days; the home you were going to come to visit in the fall. I sat down on a lawn chair and started to cry again, alone in the dark. A few minutes later I started to see flecks of light, and I realized that there were fireflies darting and dancing in amongst the trees. And I thought, How fitting. I didn't get all soppy, thinking that you, Lisa, were one of those little creatures zipping silently overhead. But they reminded me so much of you; quiet, small, maybe just looking fairly ordinary... But then, when our world got dark, you were a delicate, magical burst of light.

Fly safely away, my firefly. I'll see you again. Fill the kettle (if they have kettles in heaven) with enough water for two.

My deepest condolences to Lisa's daughter, family and friends during this difficult time.

Lisa and I started our journey at Metis Nations British Columbia within two weeks of each other back in 2021. Right off the bat we were both tasked with a massive project:  to develop and launch two employment programs within our respective Ministries.  We spent a lot of time brainstorming, sharing, learning and laughing while we built Y.E.T.I. and CareerFit. We were cubicle neighbors. Lisa's passion to support individuals going though career transitions was unwavering, and she was always so driven to help people see their gifts and talents so they can continue their journey with hope and encouragement.  Kind, smiling and so welcoming in every interaction I can recall.

I will miss you, Lisa! Rest easy dear friend.

Love,

Nadine

I first met Lisa during my 2nd week at MNBC. She had her tea and a stack of books next to her. Since then, we connected sharing stories from her time in Arizona and living in the States. Often exchanging creative ideas and innovative collaborations. She was a role model of humbleness and walking with an open heart. Always encouraging me to live my passion (and update my resume!😁). Lisa-you will be dearly missed! My condolences to Lisa's family.❤️
In loving memory of Lisa, may her serene presence and gentle spirit continue to inspire and comfort those she touched. Despite our brief encounters, her warmth left an enduring mark. My deepest condolences to her loved ones during this difficult time.
My deepest condolences to Lisa's daughter, family, friends and coworkers.  Lisa was so full of life with a feisty energy to get things done to the best of her ability.  She was filled with Love and compassion and always had an ear to listen.  She was always there for advice on any questions that came forward.  Her heart was so overflowing with passion for MNBC citizens who needed her help.  You will be forever missed Lisa and never forgotten as you touched so many hearts on your time here on earth.  May your spirit soar freely now and may you be at peace.

I met Lisa when I participated in Careerfit through MNBC. It was an eye opening experience and that was all thanks to Lisa’s intelligence and kind nature. She helped me get more involved in my culture and with some personal struggles I had experienced. I truly believe if it wasn’t for her I would not be here today. She also helped me make my resume fantastic and I have the career of my dreams now..

Sending love to Lisa’s family during this devastating time. Thank you Lisa for believing in me when I couldn’t, Thank you for your kindness and your thoughtful heart.  You will be missed dearly.  This is a massive loss for our Community

Lisa embodied all MNBC's core values and with immense compassion for all. She was never too busy to connect with citizens and coworkers, even for a simple chat. Feeling her absence immensely today and will continue to. Sharing a photo from our STEPS Tigh-Na-Mara trip. Condolences to Lisa's family. — with Lisa Stephen, Tina Marrale, Lavina Mhadalekar and Kaitlin Hunter
So sorry for your loss, my condolences to her entire family. Lisa was an important part of our team and she will be missed. ((Hugs)) to all she touched.
My most sincere condolences to Lisa’s family and friends. I had the privilege of working with Lisa at Métis Nation and always enjoyed visiting her on the other side of the office. She was such a strong advocate for our Métis people and her passion, warmth, and kindness will be deeply missed by so many lives that she touched. Sending big hugs and holding you all in my heart today.  I will put some tobacco down and pray for her.
