Lisa's obituary
Lisa Rapp was born to Mary and Dominic Spirito in Los Angeles, California, the second of two children. She grew up in the nearby suburb of South Gate where she attended both public and private schools. She developed her life long interest in music during this time, learning several instruments and performing in several diverse ensembles, eventually becoming the drum major of her high school band. While in high school, Lisa also developed a love of science.
Lisa studied for and received a degree in Civil Engineering at USC, while also maintaining her interest in music by becoming a member of the USC Trojan Marching Band. She met many of her life long friends at USC, including her husband, Richard. Lisa remained a proud Trojan throughout her life, staying connected to the university in various alumni service roles.
Lisa had a successful and rewarding 43 year career, almost entirely in the field of Public Works, spending the last half as the Director of Public Works for the City of Lakewood, California. Lisa was one of the first women to hold such a job in California, completing many large and novel projects. She belonged to numerous professional organizations and served on multiple boards and committees. When she passed, Lisa was slated to become the national President of the American Public Works Association the following September. Lisa was also actively involved in 2 different Rotary Clubs for two decades.
Lisa was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She and her husband raised two sons, both of whom earned college degrees. She supported numerous activities of her boys, providing both encouragement and support. Lisa took care of her mother later in life when her health declined.
Lisa also loved travel, first with her husband, then as a family, and ultimately with several of her many friends, visiting 35 states and 49 countries. Lisa loved to stay active in her personal life, enjoying bowling, golf, hiking, fishing, skiing, and ballroom dancing. Later in life she reconnected with her musical life, performing in community musical ensembles.
Lisa is survived by her husband Richard, her sons Ricky & Rusty, and her brother Nick.
