Lisa's obituary
Lisa Nelson, 50, passed away on February 9, 2026, just four weeks after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Though her illness was sudden and devastating, Lisa faced it with strength and determination, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 14, 1975, in Meriden, Connecticut, Lisa spent her life in Meriden and Middletown, building deep roots in the community she called home. A graduate of O.H. Platt High School, she went on to work as a dedicated pharmacy technician for the State of Connecticut. Lisa took pride in her work and was known for her compassion, reliability, and genuine care for others.
Lisa had a fiery spirit and a strong sense of justice. She was a fierce defender of people and communities who were marginalized and never hesitated to speak out for what she believed was right. Her courage and conviction were defining parts of who she was, and she inspired others through her honesty and strength.
Above all, Lisa’s greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jayleesa Elder, and son-in-law, Jasil Elder; her son, Jason Nelson, and daughter-in-law, Allie Nelson; and her cherished grandson, Ambrose Elder. She is also survived by her parents, Stanley Gwara and Laura Aresco; her stepmother, Gina Gwara; her sister, Patricia Gwara; her stepsister, Angela Moreau; her stepbrother, David Ehle; her aunt, Joan Aresco; her cousins, Rachael and Hilary Aresco; four nieces and two nephews; and many extended family members and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, who were faithful companions and dearly loved members of her family.
She was preceded in death by her cousin, Paul Aresco, and her uncle, David Aresco.
Lisa loved spending time at the beach, found joy in gardening, and was a talented artist whose creativity reflected her thoughtful and passionate nature. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her fierce loyalty, her creativity, and the unwavering love she gave so freely. Her life was far too short, but her impact will be lasting.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tate’s, 80 Harbor Dr, Middletown, CT 06457. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable life she lived. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. For online condolences, please visit jferryfh.com.
