Lisa's obituary

Lisa Elliston Patton, long-time resident, and integral part of the Lake George community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 20, 2023. She was only 60 years old. She finally found rest and was reunited at last with her mother, Charlene Potter, and her father, Frederick Elliston, as well as her Aunt Nancy, and her beloved cousins, who preceded her in death. She left behind her oldest son, Daniel Patton and his fiancé Heidi Adams, her youngest son, Charlie Patton and wife Sarah Patton, as well as four incredible grandchildren, Joseph, Charlotte, Ethan and Alexander Patton, as well as two “bonus” grandchildren, Tyler and Kaylee Adams. She also left behind her older brother, Richard Hyler and sister, Teresa Capalby, as well as countless close friends and neighbors. Her sudden death has been a shock and we all are devastated by the loss of such an incredible human. None of us will ever forget her amazing smile, her mermaid hair, her epic cakes, her love of nature, her belief in magic, her obsession with rocks and crystals or her warm and generous spirit.

Lisa lived life with her whole heart, which may have seemed quirky to outsiders, but was the most special kind of endearing to those closest to her. When her granddaughter told her she liked mermaids, Grandma Lisa went all in on mermaids, painting a tree vibrant shade of teal and purple and naming it “the mermaid tree” in her yard. She spent weeks on the perfect birthday cake, complete with multiple tiers and a waterfall. And when her grandson told her he loved gold, every gift was painted gold, the cake was Midas approved and every gift was wrapped in golden paper. Lisa loved her grandchildren more than anything in this world and she proved it with every time portal they searched for, every magical staff she made for them, and every time they hunted for golden nuggets at Montinooey. During the pandemic, when quarantine kept families apart, Lisa made a point to video call her grandkids every day to read to them, so they would develop a love of reading, but mostly to keep their deep connection alive and strong.

In her professional life, Lisa devoted herself fully to the Earth and worked for the Forest Service both as a firefighter and as a Park Ranger. She called herself a “rock hound” and passed her love of rocks and crystals down through the generations both to her sons and grandchildren, and her collection was one of her most prized possessions. Lisa never fit inside of a mold, which is what her loved ones cherished most about her. She was thoughtful, generous, fiercely protective, wise and funny, with a laugh that was contagious. She put her beliefs into action and led by example. She taught us all to love, first and foremost. To stand up for those who need it. To share what we have, even when there isn’t much to share.

We love you, Ranger Lisa, and will cherish your memories and keep your wisdom close to our hearts always.
