Linda's obituary

LINDA RAE JOHNSON (nee Chapman) passed away on January 27, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 77. She was born on September 22, 1946, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Linda was a devoted wife to Max C Johnson, with whom she shared a life full of love and three sons; Mathew, Max and Philip.

Linda was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Cornelius, Oregon. Although she was not able to attend service very often during the last couple years, she still remained in contact with the congregation.

Linda found joy in singing and was a valued member of The Sweet Adaline’s for several years. Her passion for music was evident, although in her later years, she was unable to sing. In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed crocheting, although she called it knitting. Linda also enjoyed gardening. However, her greatest source of pride was her five beloved grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply, despite finding it difficult at times to express her affection openly. Linda’s family meant everything to her, and she spoke of her grandchildren incessantly.

In her career, Linda worked as a Nursing Aide at the Masonic Home in Forest Grove, which had previously served as an orphanage. She later chose to dedicate herself to being a stay-at-home mom, prioritizing her family above all else.

Linda is survived by her sister, Mary Gates; brothers, Bobby Chapman and Warren Stouffer; sons, Max M Johnson (Marie MacArthur) and Philip Johnson (Shelly Bentler); and grandchildren, Zeus, Jezebel, Nova, Otis and Harley. She was preceded in death by her mother, Silvia (Scribner) Chapman; father, Bobby Chapman; son, Mathew Johnson, husband, Max C Johnson and brother, Eddie Chapman.

Linda’s life was celebrated with a cremation at Fir Lawn Memorial Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Oregon, as per her wishes. A private family gathering has already taken place to honor and remember her.

Rest in Peace Linda!
