Linda's obituary
Linda Sharon Ogryzlo Stoddart
Feb. 10, 1945 – Feb. 16, 2025
Linda was born to Bettie Faye and Stephen Peter Ogryzlo on February 10, 1945, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, during the heyday of gold mining in the area. She joined her two older brothers, Charles Thomas ("Tom") and James Stephen ("Jim"). When she was eight years old, the family moved to the Eastern Townships of Quebec and then in 1957 to Willowdale, Ontario. She attended Owen Boulevard Public School and then York Mills Collegiate Institute, where she met her future husband, Jack Stoddart, whom she later married in 1968.
Linda loved the outdoors and was thrilled when she acquired a cottage on Livingston Lake near Algonquin Park. She spent many happy days there renovating, swimming, water skiing, snowmobiling, and enjoying cottage life. She delighted in cooking and hosting her many friends and family. Her next cottage was on Scarcliffe Bay on Lake Muskoka, where Linda developed her passion for antique boats. She spent many hours cruising the lake in her Fay & Bowen woodie boat "India Bay" and enjoyed proudly showing it at the local boat show each year.
In 2000, Linda moved to the cottage full-time after she and Jack parted ways. She eventually found her dream cottage on Walkers Point on Lake Muskoka, which she quickly turned into a beautiful dream home, showcasing her artistic flair for design and decoration.
Linda was an early adopter of physical fitness. She was a keen tennis player for many years, a lifelong swimmer—both in the lake and at the Gravenhurst YMCA, and even completed a triathlon at the age of 70. She was also an avid traveler, having visited most countries in the Caribbean and Europe, and in her last decade, even toured through Africa, the Galapagos, and Peru. Linda will be best remembered as an extremely kind, generous, and thoughtful person who was always up for an adventure. She was an excellent host who often brought people together with her energetic personality, radiating smile and wonderful sense of humour, great entertaining skills and gourmet cooking.
Linda was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in early February and passed shortly thereafter—a great shock to friends and family. She is survived by many family members: her brothers, Tom (Norma) and Jim (Pat); her many cousins, including Ann Jeffrey, Joan McAlister, Kathy Ogryzlo, Peter Ogryzlo, and Bill (Gene) Brooner; her nephews and nieces—Michael Ogryzlo, David Ogryzlo, Karen Ogryzlo (Shannon Flinchpaugh), and Cindy Ryan (Mark); and grand nieces and nephews Matthew Ogryzlo, Kelby Ogryzlo, Levi Ogryzlo, Eric Ogryzlo, Ronan Flinchpaugh, Alex Ryan (Cynthia), and Ember Ryan.
She is also survived by many close friends from public school days, including Cheryl Kritzer and Merrily (nee Noel) Beauchemin; Gerry Lohmayer (and husband of dear friend Carol); her prior partner George Eldridge and his daughters, Brittny and Chrissy, and his four granddaughters; and her close Muskoka friends Kay Gurbin, Anne McClelland, and John Tomlinson.
A Celebration of Life will take place this summer at the Muskoka Discovery Center in Gravenhurst on Sunday, July 13th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Linda’s honor to Andy’s House/Hospice Muskoka or the charity of your choice.
