Linda's obituary
Linda Woodfine Michelini, 74, a resident of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2025, after facing glioblastoma (brain cancer) with extraordinary grace, strength, and resilience.
Born in Liverpool, England (Liver Bird and forever Evertonian) to Doris and John Alexander (Alec) Woodfine, she travelled and settled throughout Europe before making Florida her home, where she married and raised her three children.
Linda carried with her a lifelong appreciation for community, language, and education. She was multilingual, an advocate for traveling, learning, and appreciating the language and culture of distant places. As a young woman, Linda lived and worked in London, England; Strasbourg, France; Basil, Switzerland; Kibbutz Naan & Tel Aviv, Israel to name a few - picking up lifelong friends and new languages along the way.
Linda graduated the top of her class at the University of Central Florida, where she obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She taught Hebrew at local temples, often tutored or volunteered in her children’s schools, and eventually worked for Volusia County schools, teaching speech/language, until retiring during the COVID pandemic. Her guidance empowered many students in the local community to speak and read better.
Later in life, Linda dedicated her time to genealogy. She created a Woodfine-Robinson family tree, tracing back generations of extended family. Should any family want a copy of the tree, please contact her daughter, Alex, or niece, Kelly. After losing her first child to a brain injury in 2018, Linda found solace in researching young soldiers of WWI and became passionate about helping identify young soldiers in unmarked war graves around the world.
Linda was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme in June 2024. While completing grueling treatments, she remained fearless, strong-willed, and independent - and a dedicated Nan to her beloved grandson - until the recurrence in the summer of 2025, when the desire to rest or sleep overcame everything.
Linda is predeceased by her parents and eldest daughter. She is survived by her husband, two brothers, two children, grandson, other family in both England and America, friends around the globe, and countless children she mentored throughout her life.
Linda’s family has dedicated a park bench for her overlooking the lake at the Port Orange city center, where Linda often took her children to watch the local wildlife after a trip to the library. The bench honors Linda and her beloved pre-deceased daughter, Elisabeth “Libby” Michelini. The family invites you to visit the bench, which is located at the southwest bank of the lake, near the amphitheater.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Linda’s memory to your favorite charitable organization, or one that she routinely supported during her lifetime: Save the Children Federation; Southern Poverty Law Center; and Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
