Update from April 4, 2026
In celebration of Linda’s recent birthday, we hope you are able to join us at an event in her honor, being held at Walnut Hill School (12 Highland Street, Natick, MA 01760).
It’s going to be an AWESOME event, with many friends and former colleagues, students who were touched by Linda sharing their stories and the artistic gifts she helped motivate, and even some food (make sure you RSVP for the caterer’s count!).
We hoe to see you there. If not, you can remember Linda (and drop a memorial birthday gift at https://www.walnuthillarts.or…, where you can also RSVP for the event).
Peace,
Bill and the Hughes Family
Update from Feb. 8, 2026
We have some wonderful news, and an opportunity for you to remember Linda through her final legacy project:
Walnut Hill School has continued Linda's memory in many ways, and now there is an opportunity for you to join with them in launching the Linda Lifsey Hughes Funds. Learn more, and please join us if you can (or give if you're able) on Saturday, April 11, 2026 for a memorial event to kick off these funds in support of increasing economic inclusion in the school's world-class arts education experience.
https://www.walnuthillarts.or…
The timing of the event was in keeping with Linda's birthday season (March 30).
Tell any friends who may not have gotten word, and we hope to see you there (the school is asking for RSVPs to make sure we know how many people to prepare for).
With love and gratitude,
Bill Hughes and family
Update from Jan. 1, 2026
New Years 2026 Update: This holiday season, as I look back on 2025, I am so grateful for all of the love, support and tenderness that so many have shown our family. Everywhere I go, I find people who knew Linda and were touched in a positive way by her life. It is a gift to us to remember her -- with others, and in quiet times.
The ladies and I have made it through this tender year, and we have gotten to spend quite a bit of time together, for which I am grateful.
I just received the statement from Walnut Hill detailing the Linda Lifsey Hughes Inclusion Fund, which is now an endowed fund with over $50K. This past summer they hired Dr. Ashley Hazelwood-Cameron, who serves as the school's Director of Community & Belonging. Dr. Ashley has been working with the school community to continue the work that Linda began there and that meant so much to her over the past decade.
SAVE THE DATE: Soon I will be posting an announcement about a remembrance and fundraiser at the school in Natick on April 11. If you're in the area, we would love to see you there to pay tribute to Linda and help support her ongoing legacy.
May goodness and kindness follow you and emanate from you in 2026!
Peace,
Bill H.
Update from May 10, 2025
Spring 2025 Update: It has been just over 5 months since Linda left us, but her memory lives on in so many ways. I have an exciting update to share regarding how that memory will live on at Walnut Hill School for the Arts. I encourage you to read this letter from Dr. Eric Barber, Head of School, to the Walnut Hill community: https://mailchi.mp/54bf8d68ad…
As you can see from the letter, Linda’s memory will be honored in three ways:
- a student award named in her honor
- a fund in her honor (many of you have already contributed to it!)
- the naming of the school’s dining hall after Linda
This last honor will be commemorated on June 3, 2025, at Walnut Hill. Any and all who are in the area are welcome to attend. We will post photos of the event for those not able to make it.
I thank all of you who have reached out in so many ways to my family and me. The girls and I are navigating this time as best we can, remembering Linda fondly, and allowing those memories to inspire us to be our best selves. We hope you do the same.
Until we meet again…
Peace,
Bill H.
