Linda's obituary
With heavy hearts, we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved Linda Thi Lam, who left us too soon on August 7th, 2024, in Richmond, VA. Linda was born on January 12th, 1985, in Thailand, and grew up in Richmond, VA, where she attended South Hampton Elementary, G.H. Reid Elementary, Thompson Middle School, and Richmond Community High School. Linda was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Her life was deeply enriched by close family ties, including her cherished husband, Chedy Mtar; her devoted mother, Pouvdara Son; her supportive step-father, Wayne Gross; her loving brother, Sang Lam; her beloved grandmother, as well as her aunts, uncles, and younger cousins, who affectionately called her “Bong Da.” While we mourn her loss, we take comfort in the countless memories of her love and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind.
For a brief time during her childhood, Linda lived in Long Beach, California, and often spoke fondly of that period, which influenced her decision to return to California later in life.
Linda displayed an impressive blend of academic talent and extracurricular enthusiasm. In middle school, she was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society and excelled in track and field. Her leadership skills shone during her senior year at Richmond Community High School when she served as president of the National Honor Society. She went on to graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in Psychology, proudly identifying as a "Hokie."
Linda’s life exemplified strength, resilience, and generosity. After earning her B.S. in Psychology, she embarked on a 16-year career spanning executive assistance, business development, and legal recruiting. Driven by both excellence and a passion for helping others realize their potential, she made a lasting impact in every role she took on.
Although Linda rarely discussed her work, she often spoke warmly of her time at Beveridge & Diamond PC, an environmental law firm in Washington, D.C., and frequently mentioned her boss, Paul Hagen, with great respect and gratitude for his influence early in her career. She cherished her experience at the firm, which played a pivotal role in shaping her professional journey.
Linda held leadership positions at firms like yRush Tech Group and AMS Staffing, where her expertise in sourcing clients, developing marketing strategies, and nurturing relationships left an indelible mark. Beyond her professional accomplishments, it was Linda’s warmth, integrity, and genuine care for others that made her stand out.
Her magnetic personality drew people to her, and she forged meaningful connections throughout her life. Her ability to connect deeply with others made her a cherished friend, colleague, and family member. Linda’s family remained central to her life, and she was known for bringing everyone together with her infectious laughter, wise advice, and unwavering support. The void she leaves behind will be felt profoundly by all who knew her.
Outside of her corporate career, Linda pursued her passions as a talented freelance makeup artist and nail technician, assisting her mother in building and maintaining a successful nail salon business. She loved making others feel beautiful and confident, especially brides and their wedding parties, finding immense joy in every smile she helped create.
Linda was also known for her love of hosting. Whether it was an unexpected visit or a longer stay, she always greeted guests with delicious food and heartfelt hospitality. Her boundless generosity and care were evident in the warmth she extended to everyone who entered her home.
Her love for animals, from her childhood pet “Simba” to the llamas she visited on a farm, brought her endless joy. Linda’s eclectic taste in music reflected her lively spirit, with favorite artists such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, and Justin Timberlake.
Linda lived life to the fullest. From discovering new restaurants, engaging in hobbies like high-end thrifting, boating, and Muay Thai, to spontaneous cross-country trips to visit friends, Linda embraced every moment with enthusiasm. She lived each day as though it were her last.
Her adventurous spirit took her on travels to Mexico, Iceland, France, and Southeast Asia, where she immersed herself in the diverse cultures and landscapes. Linda’s curiosity and eagerness to learn were defining aspects of her vibrant personality.
Preceding Linda in death were her grandmother, Vong Tran, and her cousin, Quinson Bullock, both of whom she dearly missed. Though she never met her grandfather, Quen Son, who died as a prisoner of war while fighting for South Vietnam with the United States, she will be reunited with him in spirit. Her grandmother, cousin, and grandfather will be there to welcome her as she crosses the rainbow bridge.
If you were fortunate to be part of Linda’s circle, you knew you could always count on her unwavering support. In addition to her close family bonds, she nurtured friendships that spanned more than 25 years.
We will gather to honor Linda's memory at a memorial service on August 16, 2024, at Bliley's Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Rd N, Richmond, VA 23224, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST.
