Linda's obituary
Linda Joyce (Rodabaugh) Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. She was born in 1940 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Ruth (Mattix) and D. Edwin Rodabaugh. From an early age, Linda discovered a love for music through the piano—an interest that blossomed into a lifelong calling.
Linda graduated from Monroe High School in Preble County, Ohio, and went on to study music at McPherson College. In 1960, she married Ronald Smith, a teacher, and together they built their life and raised their family in Eaton, Ohio. There, Linda shared her musical gifts with the community by teaching piano, playing the church organ, and directing both vocal and handbell choirs. Her passion for music enriched countless lives.
Creative at heart, Linda enjoyed sewing, and quilting became a cherished pursuit later in life. She delighted in crafting quilts for her grandchildren and many others, each one stitched with care and love. She also treasured time spent with friends—whether attending concerts, gathering at the local YMCA, or sharing meals at favorite restaurants.
In her later years, Linda moved to Florida to live with her daughter. She quickly became a familiar and friendly presence in the community, greeting neighbors on her daily walks and offering warm conversation wherever she paused to rest, be it a church lobby or a local business. Her openness drew people to her.
Linda’s life was marked by a deep and growing faith. Her love for Jesus shaped her days and radiated to those around her, leaving a legacy of kindness, devotion, and grace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Smith; her father, D. Edwin Rodabaugh; and her mother, Ruth (Mattix) Rodabaugh.
Linda is survived by her children, Sheila Strother of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Dwight Smith (Valerie) of West Manchester, Ohio; her sisters, Marilyn LeCount (Chuck) of Madison, Alabama, and Ann Santiago (Ferdinand) of Utuado, Puerto Rico; her brother, Stan Rodabaugh (Diane) of Dixon, Illinois; her granddaughters, Kelli Sozer (Dana), Bethany Loy (Rob), and Michaela Smith; and many beloved great-granchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Summit Church in Lake Mary, followed by a reception at the same location. The family warmly invites all who knew Linda—friends, colleagues, and acquaintances—to join them in honoring her memory and sharing stories of the vibrant life she lived.
Linda will be deeply missed, but her legacy endures in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
