Linda's obituary

June 6, 1941 – February 17, 2022

Linda passed away on February 17th, 2022 after losing her battle with cancer at the age of 80.

She was born on July 6, 1941, in Spokane Washington to Ralf and Elaine Peterson but resided in a number of states, including Utah, Oregon, Michigan, and Washington (most notably Vashon Island and Soap Lake).

Linda lived a wonderful, full diverse life and knew how to play hard and work hard, and was never afraid to take on any challenge life would give to her. Linda’s years on Vashon Island were memorable ones and as a single mother of two children she had many endeavors and some turned out very notable. She opened a spa, Springforth; as well as a dance studio; she was one of the first women to drive for UPS with a route on the Kitsap Peninsula back in the early ’70s. She made lifelong friends while living on the island.

Linda earned her teaching degree and taught primarily on Vashon Island and in Soap Lake, Washington as well as Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Her more recent years were spent in Soap Lake, Washington where she enjoyed the healing waters and sunshine and teaching at Soap Lake Middle/High School until her retirement at age 75. She sincerely enjoyed getting to know the students and taught at SLM/HS long enough to watch many of them grow up. They called her “Ms. G.”

She is survived by her son Robert Lyle Gustaveson; daughter Britt Gustaveson (Shawn); step-daughter Anna Dworak Fredenberg; grandchildren Stella “Daria” Gustaveson, Erica Putsche, Joshua McMahan, Haley McMahan, Nick Griswold (Kristen), and Tyler Griswold; great-grandchildren Ashby Warner, Berkley McMahan; sisters Ronda Lee, Robyn O’Neal; nieces Whitney Norris; Leah Gavino; Riley O’Neal.

Linda’s family would like to offer a tremendous thank you to all the hospice and home care aides who were so caring and kind during this difficult time.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held in July 2022 on the west side of the mountains.
