It has been about a year. Week before last, I was reminded of the last time I saw Linda in person, just a week or so before she passed. I am grateful that the last time I saw her we shared a meal and casual chit chat. Seemed so ordinary, but I remember it. A little reminder to stay aware and appreciate those small moments.

I am the Director of Patient Experience/Advocacy at Texas Health Huguley. On the morning of August 8th, at 7:30am, I just happened to be on the medical unit where Linda was hospitalized. I was on the unit checking in on the nursing team and I really had no plans to make patient rounds as it was rather early, that is, until I walked past Linda’s room. Her door was open and she was sitting up in her bed and smiled as I was walking by. I was immediately drawn into her room. I introduced myself and we began delightfully chatting with one another. I had no idea that she had just texted Ruth 2 minutes before my visit to let her know she was feeling good and sitting up in the bed. Neither did I realize, that I would be the last person to speak to Linda before she went to be with the Lord. It was definitely God’s intervention that led me into Linda’s room that morning, and of course her inviting smile. While attending Linda’s memorial service, I was so moved and touched hearing about her full and wonderful life, devoted to her family and students…AND that God chose me to be the one who was with her in her last moments. What a gift and bright spot Linda was for all who knew her, and what a blessing that I was able to meet this amazing woman…the book end to her beautiful life here on earth. Sending my continued thoughts, prayers, and love to her beautiful family.

I had the pleasure of working with Linda at KISD for almost 5 years. She loved teaching children and had the sweetest spirit. She can never be replaced. I know she will remain in our hearts at KISD.
