OBITUARY: DR. LINDA ELLIS (11 July 1956 – 29 March 2023)

Dr. Linda Ellis, aged 66, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

Dr. Ellis received her PhD from Harvard University in 1984, having graduated from the

University of California, Los Angeles Summa cum Laude in 1978, with a Major in Anthropology.

She then began her career as a research associate at Harvard’s Peabody Museum specializing in

Europaean History and Archaeology, and was the recipient of a Fulbright Award for studies in

Eastern Europe. She did the greater part of her work in Romania, specializing in the

prehistoric Cucuteni Culture. Upon her return to the United States, Dr. Ellis established the

Museum Studies Program at San Francisco State University in 1987, and directed it for over 30 years.

Dr. Ellis wished to express her best wishes for successful careers to her many students and colleagues

both in the United States, and in Romania. She is survived by her husband, Gil Zilberstein.
