Linda's obituary

Linda Whitby Dunagan

November 24, 1957-March 1, 2023

Linda Whitby Dunagan, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away on March 1, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born on November 24, 1957, in Memphis Tennessee, to Coley and Sophie Whitby.

Our hearts are broken as we all mourn the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, Nene, aunt and friend. Her bright light and big heart left us far too soon, but we will forever remember her warmth, joy, vivacious spirit and love.

Linda had a loving impact on those who knew her best. She was grateful for what she had and always put the needs of others in front of her own, displayed in her love for her grandsons who she raised as her own. Linda will best be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and her love of God. It was always foremost in her heart to help and encourage people to be better,to look beyond themselves and to bring beauty and happiness into their lives.

Linda is survived by her father, Coley Whitby; her son, Brett Dunagan (Stephanie);grandchildren Aidan and Caleb Dunagan (whom she raised); her daughter, Christy Dunagan (Brad); Maya, William, and Bradley ; her brothers Mike Whitby (Dixie) of Granbury, TX and Steve Whitby (Cindy) of Millington, TN; her sister Michelle York (Greg) of Nashville, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly. Linda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Grady and Corrine Whitby; her mother Sophie Whitby; and two nephews, Lyle Goforth (Memphis, TN) and Hunter York (Nashville, TN).

Linda graduated from Frayser High School and worked at C & I bank as a teller and loan officer, Eykon Wallcovering as a sales representative, and in the family business, Whitby’s TV, as an office assistant. Linda also loved to cook and attended L'Ecole Culinaire-Memphis. She tutored and inspired many people with her culinary knowledge. Linda also loved being outdoors, gardening,  especially working in her flower garden and was an avid Memphis Tigers fan.

A private celebration of life for family and close friends is being planned.
